Year 3 - You'll Think Of Something

I pull Hermione up. Looking around. Paper peels from the walls. Stains suspiciously similar to dried blood blot the floorboards. Shattered furniture lies strewn everywhere.

"We're in the Shrieking Shack, aren't we?" Hermione said.

Harry doesn't answer, staring at the dog prints in the dust on the floor. The ceiling creaks. After hearing this we dash to the stairs. We come out, and look down. A wide, shiny stripe cuts through the dusty floor as if something has been dragged to the end of the hallway, where light seeps from a door.

"Nox," I said.

Slowly, we step to the door. I exchange a look with Hermione. She nods, we get our wands ready and Harry kicks the door aside. Ron sits upon a sagging bed, clutching his bloody foot.

"Ron! You're okay --" I said as we ran to him. 

"The dog -- where's the --" Harry said Ron cutting him off.

"He's the dog. It's a trap, Harry. He's an Animagus..." Ron said pointing behind us. 

Harry and I look down and follow the paw prints on the floor to a pair of filthy human feet. We look up slowly at the man standing in the shadows. Filthy, matted hair hangs to his shoulders. His skin like a corpse. SIRIUS BLACK. He studies Harry's face keenly. Harry draws his wand.

"If you want to kill Harry, you'll,  you'll... have to kill us, too!" Hermione said. 

"No. Only one will die tonight," Sirius Black said.

"Then it'll be you!" Harry says pushing black to the ground.

"Are you going to kill me, Harry?" Black said with a laugh. 

Harry raises his wand as the door crashes open as Lupin appears.

"Expelliarmus!" Lupin said disarming Harry.

"Looking a bit ragged, aren't we, Sirius? Finally, the skin reflects the madness within" Lupin said as Harry got up.

"Well you'd know all about the madness within, wouldn't you, Remus?" Black said.

The two regard each other, the moment taut with tension, and then Lupin steps forward and embraces Black like a brother.

"No! I trusted you! I covered up for you. And all this time you've been his friend!" Hermione said.

"What do you mean," Harry said.

"He's a werewolf! That's why he's been missing classes!" I said before Hermione could answer.

"Yes but as Mr L/N may have fingers it out first I doubt he told his friends so how long have you known," Lupin said.

"Since Professor Snape set the essay," Hermione said.

"Well well you truly are the brightest witch of your age I've ever met, Hermione," Lupin said.

"Enough talk! Remus let's kill him," Black said.

"Wait," Lupin said.

"I did my waiting! Twelve years of it! In Azkaban!" Black said.

"Fine kill him but wait one more minute Harry has the right to know why," Lupin said.

"I know why, you betrayed my parents you're the reason they're dead," Harry said stepping forward. 

"No Harry it wasn't him somebody did betray your parents but it was someone who until very recently I believed to be dead," Lipun said.

"Who was it then," Harry said.

"Peter Pettigrew, and he's in this room right now come out come out peter come out come out and play," Black said.

"Expelliarmus!" Said Snape as he appeared disarming Black. 

"Oh, vengeance is sweet how I hoped I'd be the one to catch you," Snape said wand on Black. 

"Severus please," Lupin said but backed down when Snape pointed his wand at Lupin.  

"I told Dumbledore you were helping an old friend into the castle and now her the proof," Snape said. 

"Brilliant Snape ones again you put your keen and penetrating mind to the test and as usual come to the wrong conclusion now if you'll excuse us me and Remus have some unfinished business to attend to," Black said.

"This is going end badly if we don't get Snape out of here," I whispered to Hermione.

"I agree but what can we do," Hermione said back. 

"I don't know yet," I said.

"You'll think of something," Hermione said. 

Suddenly Snape soars into the air, hits the wall with a thud, and slides down. Ron, Hermione and I stare at Harry in shock.
