"Your previous instruction in this subject has been disturbingly uneven. But you'll be pleased to know, from now on you will be following a carefully structured, Ministry-approved course of defensive magic. Yes?" Umbridge said as books were placed on our desks and Hermione raised her hand.
"There's nothing in here about using defensive spells," Hermione said.
"Using spells? Well, I can't imagine why you would need to use spells in my classroom," Umbridge said.
"We're not gonna use magic?" I said.
"You'll be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way," Umbridge said.
"What use is that? If we're attacked, it won't be risk-free," Harry said.
"Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class," Umbridge said raising her voice clearly signalling out Harry.
"See trouble," I whispered.
"It is the view of the Ministry that a theoretical knowledge will be sufficient to get you through your examinations which, after all, is what school is all about," Umbridge said.
"And how's theory supposed to prepare us for what's out there?" I said.
"There is nothing out there, dear. Who do you imagine wants to attack children like yourself?" Umbridge said.
"Oh I don't know perhaps lord Voldemort," Harry said.
"Now, let me make this quite plain. You have been told that a certain dark wizard is at large once again. This is a lie," Umbridge said.
"It's not a lie. We saw him. We fought him," Harry said
"Detention, Mr. Potter," Umbridge said.
"So your saying Y/N L/N dropped dead of his own accord?" Harry said.
"Y/N is sitting right next to you alive and well," Umbridge said as all eyes soon turned to me.
"He was there he came back and I did die briefly you were all there you saw my lifeless body, and I'm not saying miracles happen but it was a miracle that gift from my father brought me back," I said.
"Enough! Enough. See me later, Mr. Potter. My office," Umbrage said as the most pointless and boring lesson ever began.
I agreed that I couldn't stay out of the common room forever and I may not have been welcomed but at least they weren't locking me out more just ignoring me, well most of them.
"I'm not asking you to write all of it for me. I've been busy studying for these stupid OWL exams," Ron said beginning Hermione to help him with an essay.
"I'll do the introduction. That's all," Hermione said caving as she sat with me and Harry.
"Hermione, you're honestly the most wonderful person I've ever met. And if I'm ever rude to you again..." Ron said.
"You will have gone back to normal," I said Hermione leaning into me as I continued to read.
"What's wrong with your hand?" Hermione said looking at Harry.
"Nothing," Harry said showing his hand.
"The other hand. You've got to tell Dumbledore," Hermione said as we saw the marks on his hand.
"No Dumbledore's got enough to worry about," Harry said.
"He's the headmaster of Hogwarts he will have something going on but you can't ignore this," I said.
"Maybe but I don't want to give Umbridge the satisfaction," Harry said.
"Bloody hell, Harry. The woman's torturing you. If the parents knew about this..." Ron said
"Yeah well I haven't got any of those, have I, Ron?" Harry said.
"Harry, you've got to report this. It's perfectly simple. You're being..." Hermione began.
"No, it's not. Hermione, whatever this is, it's not simple. You don't understand," Harry said before leaving.
"Do you ever stop eating?" Hermione said in disappointment and disgust as Ron stuffed his face.
"What? I'm hungry," Ron said.
"You not hungry," Hermione said seeing I hadn't eaten a bite.
"No," I said.
"Harry," Ginny said.
"Can I join you?" Harry said but before he can take his seat we are something outside the great hall.
"Pardon me, professor, but what exactly are you insinuating?" Umbridge said.
"I am merely requesting that when it comes to my students you conform to the prescribed disciplinary practices," McGonagall said.
"So silly of me, but it sounds as if you're questioning my authority in my own classroom, Minerva," Umbridge said.
"Not at all, Dolores, merely your medieval methods," McGonagall said.
"I am sorry, dear. But to question my practices is to question the Ministry and by extension, the minister himself. I am a tolerant woman but the one thing I will not stand for is disloyalty," Umbridge said.
"Disloyalty," McGonagall said in shock.
"Things at Hogwarts are far worse than I feared. Cornelius will want to take immediate action," Umbridge said now realizing we were there.
Over the next few weeks or so Umbridge began to integrate all the teachers of each class to... I'm not entirely sure what her goal was. I could tell was looking for a reason to kick one of the teachers out but why what does she have to gain other than another blow to her public image. I was walking around with no real location other than anywhere Umbridge wasn't I had made it to the astronomy tower without realizing it and then saw Hermione was there too.
"Hey Hermione," I said.
"Oh Y/N hey what are you doing here?" Hermione asked.
"Avoiding toad face, you?" I said using the nickname everyone had given Umbridge recently.
"The same I guess," Hermione said with a smile.
"You think this will last," I said standing next to her as we looked out over the grounds.
"What will?" Hermione said.
"The others seeing me as the son of Voldemort, I meant you were there the other day the others kept me at a distance," I said.
"That doesn't mean anything whether you are Y/N Riddel by birth you are Y/N L/N by your actions and people's actions define who and what they are," Hermione said.
"Thank you," I said.
"Hey so I need to say something but you don't have to agree but you need to hear it," Hermione said.
"What is it," I said.
"I love you," Hermine said cupping my face and kissing me passionately.
