Year 3 - For What

I get up after making sure Ron is okay before walking over to Lupin and Pettigrew Lupin sees me and gives me a look but I glare at him. 

"You know about my mother what do you know?" I asked and he just cowers as Lupin holds on.  

"Tell me," I said getting no answer from him.  

I then see Lupin acting odd he then goes limp I am afraid of what is going on I have an idea I just pray I am wrong for a change.

"Professor," I say before I realise it's a full moon.

"Harry..." Hermione said as the others turn to us.

He turns, to see Hermione staring at the full moon. His eyes shift. Lupin is a rigid silhouette, his fingers twitching.

"Remus, old friend... did you take your potion tonight?" Sirius said.

Lupin, twitching, shakes his head. Pettigrew's eyes dart, taking in the situation, then slowly shift, taking note of the wand trembling in Lupins changing hand.

"Run. All of you. Now," Sirius said as he wrestled with Lupin. 

But none of us do, transfixed, watching as bristles poke through Lupin's skin. Black steps forward wraps his arms around his friend and pressed his mouth to his ear.

"You know the man you truly are, Remus. This flesh is only flesh, this heart is where you truly live. This heart! Here!" Sirius said as Lupin's wand dropped and Pettigrew leaps.

"No! Expelliarmus!" Harry said.

Lupin's wand flies from Pettigrew's hand and he freezes. Then slowly turns. Face blank, eyes closed, he grins hideously then he transforms into a rat and darts into the night. A howl then pierces the air and we turn around. With a shrug, Lupin tosses Black into the air, then turns. He is no longer human. He's a werewolf. Harry and Hermione begin to edge back.

"Y/N," Hermione said.

"I got this," I said in my head.

I closed my eyes and then felt my bones change and the hair around my body grow I was then on all fours and I was in full control and knew it, my animagus form was a lion. I roared and Lupin and he howled back I didn't want to hurt him but I needed to protect my friends. I took a few steps forward and road again I ran at him and he was strong and was able to push me off and throw me into the bushes. I landed a few feet away and landed at him again I push his arm away with my paw before ramming his chest with my head. He was pushed back a bit and growled at me as I roared once again louder than last time my anger taking over.

I run at him front claws fully extended and right on target as I push into his chest pushing him to the ground as I pin him there with my strength. Lupin is thrashing on the ground as he claws at me trying to get me off so he can get back on his feet. One of his feet slipped free and he pushed it into my chest the claws caused me pain forcing me off him. I get to my feet trying to keep my lion form then I see Snape shielding Hermione, Harry and Ron. Lupin howls and sprints forward, when a giant dog that must have been Sirius intercepts it in midair. They hit the ground in a fierce tangle of teeth, a single horrible flailing beast. Again and again, the dog pushes Lupin back, but he is too strong.

I was going to help but I felt far too weak and I soon passed out I woke up in the hospital wing of the school I also felt someone holding my hand. I gave her hand a squeeze and I sat up and she gave me a hug and I hugged her back it was sweet and long.

"What happened," I asked.

"As far as I know they found Harry and Sirius down by a lake they had been attacked by a huge number of Dementors and he hasn't woken up yet," Hermione said.

"And because Pettigrew got away they blamed it all on the Sirius right," I said as Hermione just nodded. 

"By the way, you didn't tell me you were an animagus," Hermione said.

"Well to be perfectly honest that was my first successful transformation," I said as I stood up.

"I see well congratulations," Hermione said. 

"Yeah... look I'm really sorry," I said.

"For what," Hermione said.

"The whole reason I did all that was so I could protect you all of you and I couldn't do it, I failed," I said looking out the window. 

"You didn't, you gave Sirius a chance to become the dog that gave us a moment to get away," Hermione said. 

"How'd you find me," I asked.

"Well after Harry ran off to help Sirius I went to where I saw you get thrown and found you out cold so I had Snape reluctantly help me carry you to Hogwarts," Hermoine said.  

"Thanks," I said.
