Year 3 - Go Ask Him

"Harry, you attacked a teacher," Hermione said.

Harry looks a bit shocked himself, then turns to Black.

"Tell me about Peter Pettigrew," Harry said.

"He was at school with us. We thought he was a friend," Lupin said.

"No. Pettigrew's dead. You killed him," Harry said pointing the wan at Black.

"No, I thought so, too. Until you mentioned seeing Pettigrew on the Map," Lupin said.

"The Map was lying then," Harry said.

"The Map never lies. Pettigrew's alive. And he's right there," Black said pointing at Ron. Ron goes white with fear.

"M-me? He's mental..." Ron said.

"Not you, your rat," Black said.

"Scabbers? Scabbers has been in my family for," Ron said.

"Twelve years. A curiously long life for a common garden rat. He's missing a toe, isn't he?" Black said.

"So what?" Ron said.

"All they could find of Pettigrew was his" Harry said.

"Finger. The dirty coward cut it off so everyone would think he was dead. Then he transformed into a rat," Black said.

"Show me," Harry said.

Sirius took the rat from Ron as Ron protested then he placed the rat on the piano before both Lupin and Sirius cast spells at it s it ran. Just before the rat could make it through a hole in the door their spells hit and the rat became a small fat man. 

"S-Sirius... R-Remus. My old friends," Pettigrew said after Lupin and Sirius pulled him out. 

Neither speaks. Pettigrew's small, watery eyes dart toward the windows and door. Suddenly, he makes a break for it, but Sirius merely shoves him back. Pettigrew's nose twitches, his gaze finding Harry. His hands flutter nervously.

"Harry! Look at you! Y-you look just like your father. Like James. We were the best of friends, he and I," Pettigrew said before he was pulled away from Harry by Lupin.

"How dare you talk to Harry how dare you talk about James in front of him," Black said as Pettigrew retreated behind the piano.

"You sold James and Lilly to Voldemort didn't you," Lupin said.

"I didn't mean to! The Dark Lord, you have no idea the weapons he possesses! Ask yourself what you would have done, Sirius. What would you have done!" Pettigrew said.

"I would have died! I would have died rather than betray my friends!" Sirius said.

"Ron! Haven't I been a good friend? A good pet? You won't let them kill me, will you? I was your rat..." Pettigrew sai in a dsepate atemt. 

Ron draws back in disgust. Pettigrew turns to me.

"Young master L/N you have the same heart as your mother a good heart," Pettigrew said. Before he was pulled away by Lupin. 

"You should have realized, Peter, if Voldemort didn't kill you... Then we would together," Sirius said as they pointed their wands at him. 

"No," I said.

"He's right," Harry said.

"Harry this man is," Lupin said.

"I know what he is," Harry said cutting off Lupin.

"We both do but we will take him to the castle and after he has answered a few questions about my mother the dementors can have him," I said and Pettigrew falls to the ground and cried in fear. 

Later we are walking through the tunnel back to the castle me and Hermione were helping Ron as Harry walked with Sirius and Lupin held Pettigrew. 

"I imagen that stings a bit," Sirius said to Ron. 

"A bit you almost tore my leg off," Ron said.

"Well I was aiming for the rat," Sirius said. 

"You have terrible aim," I said.

I sit with Ron and Hermione as Harry talked with Sirius as Lupin held on to the Pettigrew I looked at him his words in my head.

"Go ask him," Hermione said.

"It's fine I can wait," I said turning back to her.

"No Y/N go I can tell it's bothering you go," Hermione said as she kissed me.

"Thanks," I said getting up.
