Living in the sorority house was tamer than I thought it would be. Everyone got along and helped each other, it was a nice change of pace for once instead of not knowing who to trust.
I felt normal in this place for once. But still, I had responsibilities I had to keep up with.
Grace Jarvis' skills had improved drastically, I had even watched her fight Mileena and she got so close to winning—it was just that her defense was off balance. And in other news, I learned through Shield contacts that Amelia had to be let go, not good.
She didn't even return to MIT or not once has she shown up at the sorority house. She didn't even get in contact with her friends. That meant she was planning something and this party Tony would be going to, had to be the location for her plan of attack. I just had to keep a very close eye on the young Stark but until then, I had some free time while Tony was at home.
Kai had invited me out to an "outing" or as Sierra (and Peggy) would say, a date. I still strongly disagree with that conclusion, I simply didn't have the time for a date or romance in general, I didn't know when I would have to go back into the pod or what would happen to Kai if he were with someone like me.
It was something I couldn't risk.
I didn't even remember the last time I went out for myself and Kai didn't even bother to mention what we were doing, guess he wanted it to be a surprise although, those weren't my forte. He had just told me to dress comfy and causally so, I wasn't expecting anything big. To be fair, we were both getting sick of dress-up events as we had been to quite a few already in a short period so, this would be a good way to relax instead of keeping appearances up.
Jean's and a nice shirt would suffice for this date do that's what I put in and soon enough, Kai got here.
Aaliyah called out to me. "Whitney! Your boyfriend is here." I heard the other girls laughing, they all teased me about Kai but they never meant anything by it. It was all good fun.
I grabbed my handbag and headed out of my room to the downstairs area, all of the girls were in the living room watching Back To The Future on VHS while Kai stood in the doorway with—roses. Well...so much for this not being a date.
"Have fun on your date with my brother Whitney!" Sierra called as I closed the door behind me.
"For you." He handed me the flowers.
"Thanks, can't remember the last time I got flowers."
"I'm surprised."
We both started walking to Kai's car. "You sure this isn't a date?"
He opened the door for me. "You said it, not me."
As we started driving Kai made conversation with me as we always did but, I battled with my morale. I didn't want to assume that he was hitting on me and then crush him by saying I'm not interested even though I knew he would respect it if I said no, he was a sweet guy but, I had too much on my plate right about know. All I could focus on was protecting Tony and finding out if I had to time travel yet again.
"Officially, how does it feel to be a sorority sister?"
"Great now that I really got to know everyone, the girls are all amazing."
"You can say if my sister is annoying you know." We laughed.
"Stop it! I love Sierra, she's been kind to me ever since she met me."
"You a hard person to dislike Whitney."
"Eh, tell that to my enemies." Kai didn't know how untrue that statement was, even though it's been over thirty years since Hydra, who knows who was still out to get me, and from time to time, it feels like someone is still watching.
