The council seemed cold even if they presented themselves as inviting. I could see why Mileena wouldn't trust them and frankly I don't either.

But I did know for sure that whatever they were going to say in this meeting, would most likely piss me off.

I was right.

"We have called you to discuss a certain...problem that we are having in the Cove," Alexander spoke. "I'm sure Adrienne didn't tell you this to avoid making a big fuss but, I think you should know our biggest enemies right now are our Vessels."

I was a bit surprised at this and I started with Adrienne who refused to meet my gaze. She lied to me, again. She didn't even think to mention that detail. "I'm sorry, you said that Vessels are the ones threatening the safety of the Cove?"

Clara faced me. "We've run this place for a long time, Christina. And Vessels can be relentless when warranted, some of them have gone into the world trying to reveal our secret. Our location which protects our existence."

"And that is grounds to call them your top threats?"

"There's clearly many of them who've done this, it's a strength in a numbers situation."She paused and looked around the room. "...Everyone who stays in this room has betrayed us, we can't risk the outside world knowing of us."

Even their tones sounded artificial. You'd think they would have more remorse for their own doing this—for silencing their own. No, they showed no remorse.

I scoffed. "They couldn't even plead their case, they can't speak."

Elizabeth approached me. "Are you questioning what we do to keep our people safe?"

I sized her up. Why was she getting defensive? "I thought that was my job."

Alexander laughed and came in-between us, clutching Elizabeth's shoulder. "Ladies, let's not get off on the wrong foot here. I'm sure Christina needs a bit of clarification on her role here."

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. I'm the protector of the Cove, am I not? I just want to do what's right by the Vessels."

He stared at me. "And that's amazing Christina. Though I believe you have it wrong."

I folded my arms. "I'm sorry...come again?" I turned to Adrienne who looked deeply ashamed. What was my true position here if not to protect?

"That is the job of our council. You serve as more as our—fist. As we called this meeting to assign to you bring in these people who are dangers to the Cove. It's a tremendous task to take on." I was shocked. It sounded like I was the one to do their dirty work. "Your power is great."

"...If my power so great that you think I can stop those people, explain me losing it."

"Hm?" He was playing dumb, of course, he would have to know about it. Doesn't the council "see all?"

"Right before I was brought here. I didn't feel like myself. I couldn't heal, I couldn't even get myself out of a rubble pile. If Adrienne wasn't there to pick me up, I'd be dead."

He rubbed his chin like he was contemplating something. "That's is very interesting indeed that you mention that now."

Clara joined in. "It's a pattern with all Bloodborne's—they live longer but, it takes a while to get used to all that power, it even happened to your mother. Ultimately if they can't handle it, it can be their demise."

I tightened my fists. "I pray that she wasn't like that till her very last breath. I hope she fought till the end." The council members looked at each and a risky thought came to me—a question.
