Kai had to talk me into leaving my despair at that party. I couldn't help but feel guilty, feel like I was the reason Tony would've either ended up dead or missing.
After years of doing this job, I wondered. How could I have let him out of my sight like this? Look what it had almost cost if I hadn't got down to finding Tony right away instead of enjoying the party.
Speaking of the party, I felt bad that I had left with no explanation to Sierra, she must've been a little worried. Not to mention that Kai left the party with me and as he was driving us, I couldn't help but let out a slight "sorry" for what had happened.
"I'm sorry that you left the party so early because of me."
He kept his eyes on the road. "Eh, don't worry your head over it. I love my sister with all my heart but the party itself wasn't the main reason why I stayed." He then looked over at me which made a smile a bit. "Why were you so upset anyway?"
"It's an extremely long story but to put it shortly, I feel like I've failed a friend. Wouldn't be the first time..."
"Why do you think you've failed your friend?"
"Well, you remember how I told you I had a friend that passed."
"Yes."
"He wasn't the first that I've lost. I didn't want to lose my other friend just because I wasn't there when I should've been."
Kai nodded. "You can't be everywhere at once but, you do and did care for your friends right?"
"Of course."
"And were they aware of that?"
"I think so."
"Then that's it, Whitney, all anyone wants is for someone to care about them."
I rose an eyebrow. "So, you're giving me a pep talk."
"I'm just saying that you can't be everywhere at once and that you need to forgive yourself. Everyone makes mistakes, some that we desperately wish that we could take back but, you shouldn't beat yourself up over it." I looked at his face, it was like that topic was fairly familiar to him. "Dreading on that will not help anyone so, know that you did the best you could to be there for your friends, and know that they appreciate that."
I wasn't into opening up but I felt like I got a whole therapy session in Kai's car. Steve, Bucky, and I were common in that way, we rarely told anyone else what we were feeling unless one of us got the words out to the other. Kai certainly had a gift to get me to vent, and drop some emotional baggage even though that was just the start.
"Thank you, Kai, I needed that."
"No problem and on the brighter side, I know you'll at least enjoy the place I'm gonna take you."
"How do you know that?"
"Just a hunch."
For a few more minutes we kept driving and talking about random topics, I could tell that Kai was trying to keep me away from negative thoughts. He parked the car when we pulled into a parking lot that was in front called "Goldie's". I didn't know what type of building it was but, inside I saw it was lively. People were laughing, talking, and, all-round having a great time it seemed like there was quite an atmosphere built around this place but, why?
Kai then turned over to me. "I just want you to know that you don't have to do anything you don't want to. If you don't want to stay here, we can always go somewhere else."
I looked at him with suspicion in my eyes, I didn't need any more shady nonsense after the week I was having.
"Uh, is this something that will get us in trouble?"
