The amount of shock and disbelief that was present on the faces of everyone in that room was just so painful.
It was even weird to say Steve like he wasn't presumed dead for the past how many years. Damn, this made my head hurt.
Though we were confused, Steve made
haste to get up from his chair and engulf me in a hug. I hugged him back even tighter. I knew no matter how hard I tried to force myself not to cry, a few tears would've escaped me anyway.
"You said you'd be okay, you idiot."
"I'm okay now, aren't I?" Steve pulled back after a few seconds, I wiped my face. "I saw your suit on the camera but I didn't think it was real."
"And even now, you're still fighting."
"I was told that Peggy founded Shield and that you were a part of that. That's why I stayed."
"You really don't know when to quit."
Steve chuckled. "Fury didn't say you were still alive."
"Fury doesn't say a lot of things. He probably thought you and I couldn't believe it till we saw it."
"Figures..."
I patted Steve's shoulder, words couldn't describe the joy I felt went I saw him again but, I knew this reunion would have to wait.
"I'll tell you everything after the mission is over. We got a job to do."
"I'm sorry—who is this midguardian woman in this interesting attire?" A man with long blonde hair and a, ironically, weird clothing asked.
"This is Agent Christina Harding, she's a good friend of mine. Christina, this is Thor, that's Dr. Bruce Banner and that is Agent Natasha Romanoff." Wait, Thor? I know it's stupid to see Loki and not expect to see Thor but, the sight of the God of thunder still shocked me slightly.
"Nice to meet you all."
"Lovely to meet you as well Lady Christina."
Oh, so he was that Thor.
"Fury sent you?" The man who I now knew as Bruce Banner asked.
"Wanted me to be part of this new team."
"The Avengers Initiative. Agent Harding, heard you have a pretty impressive track record." Natasha turned her attention to me.
"You must be a pretty impressive agent if Fury assigned you to this."
"I try."
I clasped my hands together, ready to take in the information needed for this mission. "Alright, can you get me up to speed?"
"We were just getting started." Steve sat back down, I sat in the seat next to him. Steve was studying the live camera footage of Loki in his cell before it ended. "Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?"
"He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard, not any world known. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the Earth, in return, I suspect for the Tesseract."
"An army. From outer space." Yeah, Steve, we were definitely in different times. Knowing Steve, he probably was shocked by the present world but got used to it quickly, like me.
Seriously, we'd both probably seen so much that Aliens were the least of our worries.
"So, he's building another portal. That's what he needs Erik Selvig for." Bruce commented.
"Selvig?" Thor asked him.
"He's an astrophysicist."
"He's a friend." This went way deeper than I thought.
