Opening his eyes had never been so hard before so why did it hurt so much now, Crosshair questioned. His body felt achy, had he been in battle or something. Where were his family? The sniper felt very confused as he opened his chocolate eyes to find himself sitting on a bench out-looking the ocean, looking around he noticed whiteness everywhere. Was he in an experiment room again? Damn long-necks, once he got out of here. He was going to…
“May I sit?” a stern soothing voice came out of nowhere.
Crosshair turned to look at the figure only to gasp out-loud and cringe inwardly. He found himself nodding, unable to use his voice. Wait! If 99 was here, that meant he was dead.
His hands began to shake, looking down he noticed the blood on his body. There was a new scar across his neck.
“What happened?” Crosshair croaked out, his throat feeling very raw.
“You don’t remember?” 99 questions. Crosshair took a minute to think it over before it all came rushing back to him. Oh my god, Omega! Hunter! He thought. He jumped up unaware of his actions, his body groaned. A hand guided him back to the bench.
“Am I dead?” Crosshair said through gritted teeth. Another pain hit his body but directly at his stomach, doubling over, the sniper held it in pain. “What’s happening to me?” Crosshair groaned in pain. 99 kneeled down holding his son’s hand.
“You are dying, child” a soft female voice spoke out.
Looking up, Crosshair gasped, there standing in front of him was the angel and demon who haunted his dreams for years.
“How do I stop it?” Crosshair asked, surprising the two who looked at him with equal smiles.
The demon's blue eyes shone bright as she answered, “You don’t. We do. But you must understand something” Crosshair nodded as another wave of pain hit him.
“We will send you back but you must make ‘a sacrifice of the heart’, child” the male angel said, his red eyes glowing.
Crosshair curled into himself, resting his head on 99’s shoulder. His father rubbing his back in comfort.
“You must choose between Omega and your unborn child,” the angel's soft tone said. 99 gasped now he understood why the sniper had an arm tightly wrapped around his stomach.
The sniper sighed to himself, thinking about it. He realised it was a test.
“Neither. My sacrifice will be the power I hold. My children will remain alive and nothing can take them away from me” Crosshair said, getting back to his own feet with determination. 99 gasped.
The angel and demon looked at one another before they smiled and turned it towards the sniper who held onto the memory of his children, all of them including Omega and Crux.
“Your sacrifice will save many. Close your eyes and once you awaken. Destroy the necklace”
Crosshair nodded, watching the celestial beings disappear. He turned to 99 and soon found himself unable to talk.
“I…I….”
“Hush my son. I love you all. Will you tell Hunter, Tech, Wrecker and Omega for me, please?” 99 said, gently lowering the dizzy sniper who nodded with a rare smile on his face as 99 kissed his forehead. “The angels and demons watch over you all”. Crosshair nodded, closing his eyes. “I love you, father”. The last thing Crosshair saw was 99’s fading face as he welcomed the blanket of darkness.
Elsewhere…
Omega fought the inner demon but she found herself too weak to fight it. Her body was forced to give the knife to the demon which tricked her to begin wirth. Admiral Tarkin smiled, looking down at the young clone who had been a pest in his side for long enough.
