Chapter 32

Clone Force 99 were known to have a one hundred percent success rate with their exceptional reputation but even Tech was having doubts about the plans in front of him, looking around he noticed his family felt the same way. The only one out of the bad batch who hadn’t voiced his opinion yet was Crosshair who remained stiffly in the corner of the room, watching the four children on the floor. 

“Look Hunter, all I’m suggesting is….” Rex tried to reassure. “No! There has to be another plan! Crosshair is not going undercover!” Hunter slammed his fist down on the table startling them all. Cody crossed his arms watching the way Wolffe and Howzer remained quiet next to him, their eyes focused on Crosshair. “Cody, help me out here” Rex turned to his brother ignoring the looks Havok, Jesse, Fives and Echo were sending his way. Obi-one frowned from beside Ahsoka and Shaak Ti. All this time, Cody had remained silent observing from the wall behind them all. 

“Rex from the start this plan wasn’t going to sit well with Clone Force 99 and their family. Look at it from Hunter's point of view. He lost Crosshair, gained him back and created a family. Crosshair ‘died’, he thought he lost his kids and now they are reunited. He doesn’t want to let them out of his sight. It’s called being protective, Rex. It’s also called love. Now tell me, if the shoe was on the other foot and it was Ahsoka in Crosshairs position would you want her to go through with this” Rex shook his head feeling Ahsoka coming to stand beside him, “No”. “That’s what I thought. Now either go with this plan or we make another. Wolffe has only until 16:00 before he has to leave, so that gives us 4 hours to come up with a new one” Cody explained, crossing his arms while ignoring Obi-one’s stare. 

“Sargeant, can you please explain why Crosshair can’t do this! There are lives on the line” Obi-one spoke, looking Hunter in the eye. Tech groaned inwardly, Wrecker growled slightly, looking towards Echo who shared a look with Fives. Silence filled the room for a few minutes, the tension seemed to grow. “Sargeant, don’t make me order this” Obi-one grimaced as he spoke. Hunter gritted his teeth looking over to Cody who remained glaring at the back of the Jedi’s back.

“If I may point out. Hunter currently out-ranks you because technically you should be dead” Tech announced, not looking up from his datapad, Wrecker gulped slightly but stood over his brother to make Clone Force 99 look more intimidating. Jesse turned to Havok, “He does have a point!” Havok agreed with a nod. Obi-one remained expressionless. 

At that precise moment, the doors to the room decided to swish open revealing Kix, Gregor and Thorn, who were being helped into the room. All heads turned to them, “We may have a solution to your problem” Kix said, Rex groaned knowing the medic was more than likely watching over the camera’s. “And that is?” Ahsoka spoke, sick of the conversation already. Obi-one smiled at the Togruta he had grown fond of over all these years. It seems like Anakin’s patience rubbed off on her. 

“Echo, could go undercover with Crosshair” Kix said, bluntly. All eyes turned to Echo who looked at Fives who remained staring at the medic. “How is this a solution?” Fives asked, earning him a blank look from Kix. The medic moved over to the command table so he could direct his theory to them all. Gregor pulled up a chair for Thorn before standing directly behind him with an arm on Thorn’s shoulder. Wrecker turned to smile at his friend who patted the giant clones back in a reply. “Well it's obvious. I hope Echo does not take offence to this but Omega told me about a time. Echo had to pretend to be a droid, maybe we can use this to our advantage” Kix explained locking eyes with the twins who nodded in agreement. Rex looked shocked but before the conversation could take another turn. The comm line began beeping. “Tech, bring up visuals” Cody announced. 

Tech did just that ignoring the regular clone looks. Soon a video popped up, with a cloned imperial officer. “State your business for your call” Cody spoke sternly. The officer looked his way before casting their eyes around the room until they landed on one particular person, “CT-9904, I have managed to obtain the information you have requested, it shall be sent directly to you. As you are aware Rampart is after you personally. But, I have managed to scramble the signals for you. Tarkin’s body was found and I can confirm he is dead. You did it Commander. Everything you wanted is in the packaging. Until we meet again, Commander. Stay safe” the video cut off.
