Chapter 37

Wrecker couldn’t believe his eyes, he was staring down at the fragile baby boy in his arms. It was early morning on Crait, the bad batch had moved to a spare hut. They remained near each other since Crosshair gave them quite a scare. The sniper was currently resting in Tech’s arms, the engineer holding him close in their sleep. On either side was Echo and Fives, the twins having not left Crosshair or Tech’s side since the fateful incident. Hunter was still unconscious after hitting his head when he fainted, he slept on the spare bed in the room, the one not occupied with clones. 

“How’s he doing, Wreck?” Echo asked from where he was waking up behind Tech. The giant of the group looked at Kix who had remained in the room all night keeping an eye on both the baby and Crosshair. “Our nephew seems strong,” Wrecker said with confidence as he turned to Kix. The medic nodded his head as he spoke, “Crosshair seems to be healing, it was a close call with his lungs there, but he should pull through as long as he continues the new improved treatment I have set up. Also, Honey has improved ever since she received the treatment and all the kids are now up to date on their vaccinations” Kix pointed out through his explanation. Echo nodded, taking everything in as he moved over to Wrecker who held the new batch mate. 

“Echo?” Omega’s sweet innocent voice came from the connected room. The former Arc trooper looked up, “Yes Omega”. The young girl walked over to Wrecker smiling at the baby, “Is Crosshair okay now?” Echo nodded at the question which brought a huge smile onto Omega’s face. “Can we…” Omega’s voice quivered as she looked back to see the other kids except Cal who had opted to remain in bed, the youngling was upset over something and refused to speak to anyone about it. He wanted to speak to only Crosshair but the sniper was currently asleep and he would have to wait. Echo turned when he heard a noise to see Tech starting to wake up as was Fives, the engineer nodded. “You can all come in, as long as you're quiet. Your parents are still asleep” Echo spoke softly guiding the children into the room. Ashton took the challenge as literal and remained deeply silent, which made the twins shake their heads in disbelief. 

Honey ran straight for her uncle Tech, the engineer grumbled his morning to her as he picked up his glasses and put them over his eyes so he could see. Honey started babbling to him about her dream she had, Tech only half listened but Honey didn’t mind as long as she had attention. Omega headed over to where Hunter was asleep and she lifted Lula onto the bed before she climbed up. The brothers watched as she tucked Lula in next to Hunter and kissed his forehead and then jumped down with a smile on her face. Ashton remained staring out the window watching all the kids below run around while having fun with their parents. Fives looked at him sadly, knowing the kid was missing his parents, the trooper hoped Crosshair or Hunter would wake soon. 

A knock at the door jolted them from their thoughts, Kix being the closest walked over to the door and opened it revealing a smirking Rex and Hera. The captain took a step into the room looking at his friends who all wore different facial expressions, “Howzer sent me to inform you all. That breakfast is being served” Rex said with a smile. The children all looked up at the mention of food which brought chuckles to the room. Tech got up gesturing for the twins to take charge. Fives picked up Ashton knowing the kid was still a bit funny with Rex and strangers not that Fives could blame him, Rex was a dinosaur sometimes. “Come on champ. Let’s go get you some food” Fives jokes as he lifts a happy Ash into his arms. Honey looked at Echo with a ‘I’m waiting’ look, the arc trooper sighed lifting her into his arms while Omega trotted beside them rapidly talking to Hera. 

“Tech? Wrecker? Are you coming?” Echo asked, looking at his brothers. Wrecker looked at his nephew with a frown. “Go get yourself some breakfast, I will watch him until you get back” Howzer spoke up from the doorway where he stood with an upset Cal who in all honesty looked miserable and seemed to be avoiding eye contact with Omega. It didn’t take a fly to notice something had happened between the two. Wrecker looked relieved, he handed over his nephew to the Captain and leaned down to give Cross a kiss on the forehead before he was pulled from the room by a hangry looking Tech.
