"A two-digit number is chosen at random. What is the probability that the chosen number is a multiple of 7?"
I started scribbling down numbers on the last page of my notebook.
"Letter A is 1/10. B is 1/9, C is 11/90, D is 12/90 and E is 13/90."
I was close to solving the problem someone answered.
"E, 13/90," siguradong sagot ni Rad.
"Suarez, why is it 13/90?"
"There are 90 two-digit numbers from 10, 11, 12, 13 . . . 99." Nirecite niya pa lahat ng numbers. "Out of the 90 integers, there are 13 multiples of 7: 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 63, 70, 77, 84, 91, 98. Therefore the probability that the chosen number is a multiple of 7 is 13/90 or 14.4444 percent."
Just in time when he finished explaining his solution, I am done solving.
"Correct. Letter, E, 13/90 is the right answer."
He looked back at me and sported an arrogant smirk.
"Next question, a regular deck of cards has 52 cards. Assuming that you do not replace the card you had drawn before the next draw, what is the probability of drawing three aces in a row?"
"You didn't wait for my choices, huh."
Oo nga pala.
"I'll accept your answer if your solution is precise."
I nodded. "The probability of getting three aces in a row is the product of the probabilities for each draw. For the first ace, that is 4 in 52 or 1 in 13; for the second, it is 3 in 51 or 1 in 27; and for the third, it is 2 in 50 or 1 in 25. So the overall probability, P, is P=1/13*1/17*1/25=1/5,525," paliwanag ko.
Tumango si Sir Mengillo. "Precisely, Videl."
"It is the characteristics of the sample data."
"Statistics," mabilis at malakas kong sagot.
"It is characteristics of the population data."
"Parameters," si Rad.
"It is used to study statistics for biological, a variety of research fields and topics, public health, or medical applications. "
"Biostatistics," sabay naming sagot, dahilan kung bakit kami nagkatinginan.
"It has ordered qualitative variables in the given data such as sometimes, always, never, frequently, and much more."
"Ordinal Variables." Nagsabay kaming muli.
"Epal," I mouthed at him when he looked at me for the nth time.
"You're slow," he mouthed.
At least not slow enough to lose.
