Vegas stood up and walked around Rain for a while, thinking about all the possible aspects that were supposed to change to make him suitable for a social event. Rain was getting uncomfortable because of his soon to be father in law staring at him like that, Vegas naturally noticed it and remarked:
"My dear Rain, I understand that you aren't used to people watching you, however, I'm afraid that you will have to overcome that"
"I... I don't know h... how to do it, I surely don't like being nervous" Rain responded.
"Alright, we will start with a list of all the things you will have to change, I'll start with the easier part and then increase difficulty, take notes" Vegas ordered. Rain took a pen and a piece of paper and looked at him expectantly.
"Very good. The clothes won't be a problem, we don't have enough time to hire a tailor so we will have to go out and buy something or use one of Venice's old clothes that are too tight for him. Second, your posture, you tend to look down when you're nervous, get rid of that on your own or I will have to hit you with a stick whenever you do that"
"Wouldn't that be too harsh?" Rain asked.
"Perfect, you've already managed to overcome your stutter, we can remove it from the list. Anyway, do you want to make a good impression or what?" Vegas asked.
"Yes..." Rain replied with a low tone and looking down. Vegas sighed, leant closer to him and lifted the boy's chin with two fingers, then he said:
"Louder"
"Yes"
"Good. Another crucial issue concerns your vocabulary. Your lexicon is poor, inadequate for such an event, and since we don't have time to expand it, don't talk unless they consult you, which is very unlikely to happen." Vegas said, purposely being a little too rude to see how Rain would react. Rain gulped and clenched his fists.
"Don't do that"
"What?" Rain asked confused.
"That thing with your hands, do you want them to notice that what they say can hurt you? A social event is like going in a jungle full of ferocious beasts, do you want to be the prey or the hunter?" Vegas asked.
"I'm sure that I won't act like this if my own father in law behaves more considerately"
Vegas smirked devilishly at that response, he managed to turn Rain in his opposite, his task was completed. He patted the boy's shoulder and smiled:
"Do you know why I did all this?"
"Because you know that your son will be ashamed if I make myself ridiculous in front of those guests" Rain replied.
"Wrong. Venice loves you way too much, he wouldn't feel ashamed of you even if you dance naked and drunk in the center of the hall. No, I did this for you, nobody wants to see you get hurt because of people who don't mind their business" Vegas explained.
"Really?"
"Well, I would probably torture you if I feel bored but I'm pretty sure that Pete will melt me alive in a pool of acid so I usually try to control myself, you know?" Vegas added.
"I suppose that I will never get your jokes..." Rain whispered.
"Rain, if you want to remark something that the others shouldn't hear, don't whisper, ok? Try to remember it like this... a clear speech belongs to the hall, a whisper belongs to the bedroom." Vegas replied, making Rain blush at the idea of Payu gently whispering lovely phares in his ear during an intimate moment.
"Now let's go, we have to find a good suit for you"
