Chapter 28

Rain heard a noise coming from outside. He went to the window and noticed that a car stopped by. Was it Sky? Maybe Pai took him there. He quickly closed the curtains and made sure he didn't do any noise at all. Pete looked around and when he was sure that nobody was there, he started working on the door lock.

"Cheap doors" Pete murmured to himself after the door opened under his delicate touch. He pushed on the wooden surface and entered silently. He noticed that the apartment was quite clean. He walked through the kitchen and it was very clean as well, there were no dishes in the dish washer. Maybe he washed them in the sink?

"Umm... the trash bin is empty too... let's check upstairs" Pete said to himself and walked up the stairwell. Suddenly he heard a loud noise, he proceeded to the bedroom with a hand on his gun. A robber? At that time of the day? Very unlikely.

Pete opened the door with the unarmed hand and what he saw made his heart sink in despair. Rain was on the floor, his head was covered in sweat. He rushed to him and slapped him lightly.

"Rain! Nong Rain!" he shouted repeatedly but the boy barely whispered some words he couldn't understand.

"Rain! Talk to me! Can you hear my voice?" Pete continued.

Arm was still outside but he heard Pete shouting so he rushed inside too, he saw the boy on the floor and asked immediately:

"What happened here?"

"I don't know, I guess he fainted and he doesn't wake up... he's feverish too and I fear that he hasn't eaten anything in days... we have to take him to the hospital, now"

"B... but..." Arm stuttered.

"It isn't the moment to think about anything else, Arm. We have to take him to a doctor, clear? Help me... come on..." Pete said as he pushed the boy on his shoulders and took him to the car. As they put him inside the vehicle, Rain's phone fell from his trousers, Arm picked it and sat on the driver seat while Pete stayed with Rain in the back of the car.

"You'll be fine..." Pete said softly in Rain's ear, he didn't know if the guy could actually hear him but there wasn't much he could do.

They arrived at the hospital soon after that. Arm and Pete waited in the long and clean hallway while a doctor was visiting Rain.

"What are you going to do, Pete?"

"I don't know... I don't even know how to tell this to the others... to be honest I'm just happy that we've arrived in time..." Pete replied.

Suddenly Rain's phone started ringing in Arm's pocket, Pete looked at him and told him to pick up.

"Hi Sky, I'm Arm, do you remember? We met when you came to see Porsche a few months ago..." Arm started while Pete facepalmed.

"Yeah I remember but why do you have Rain's phone?" Sky asked.

"Exactly..." Pete said sighing.

"Well, it is a long story. We took your friend to the hospital... the one near the airport... yeah, he wasn't feeling well and we were passing by so... well, that's it. I'll tell Rain that you called, bye bye" Arm said and put the phone away.

The doctor walked out and told Pete that the patient was awake. Pet went to see Rain immediately, he sat on a chair near his bed and held his hand.

"What did you do Rain?"

"Khun Pete..."

"Stop with the khun... just tell me what happened, do you know how worried we were?"

"I... I know... you rescued me..." Rain said as his eyes started watering.

"Yes, thank goodness we've arrived in time. What did you do though? We have to inform the doctor so that they can choose the right treatment"

"It... it was nothing... I... I just wasn't hungry... and I didn't want to go out... are you mad at me for this?"

"Yes, I'm extremely mad at you! I almost had a heart attack when I found you on the floor! Is this what you want for your father in law?" Pete said chuckling even though tears were going down his cheeks.

"F... father in law?"

"Yes. Now tell me why you did that"

"I... I tried my best Khun Pete... b... but it was never enough..." Rain said sobbing.

Pete smiled at him and wiped away the tears from Rain's cheeks, repeating that he didn't have to worry and that everything was going to be fine.

"W... why? I can't do anything... I'm useless... even P Payu didn't call me anymore... he's mad at me... everyone is mad at me..."

"If they are mad at you I will smack some common sense back into their heads, ok?"
