Chapter 47 - Surprise

After politician Jing and his driver were found murdered, further investigations into the case proceeded very slowly. There was no new information and no trace of the murderer. No traces of the perpetrator were found in the car, which was the crime scene. The fingerprints and DNA were exclusively from the politician and his driver.

The only strange thing was that there were no other fingerprints. This was despite the fact that the politician's wife and son were also transported in the politician's car. But this realization did not help Zhan and Yibo in their investigation. After all, the car was cleaned regularly and since the last cleaning, probably neither the wife, nor the son had been in the car.

Multiple interviews with the wife did not yield any new information either. Neither about her involvement in the illegal business, nor whether she might have had anything to do with her husband's murder. Moreover, they still have no evidence that would be admissible in court that the wife was really involved in illegal businesses.

Since there was nothing they could do but wait until there were new clues or information they could use to investigate further, they had a lot of free time that they used together. Especially after Yibo learned that the filming for the series, has been postponed until further notice and no new date for the start of filming has been set yet.

Actually, Yibo's management had planned to assign him elsewhere because of the cancelled shooting. For example, for more commercial shoots or photo shoots. But since Yibo was clearly against it, they did not arrange any new appointments for him. So Yibo was able to stay by Zhan's side for the past few days and really enjoy the time with him and get closer to him again.

And unlike back then over 5 years ago, there was no mission that stood between them and required lying. There was simply no Alessia or Mafia to observe and infiltrate by Zhan. Instead, there was just him and Yibo and the mission they were both working on, albeit not really working or needing to work for days.

After nearly a week of dating almost every day or evening, Zhan and Yibo talked about their plans for the weekend. While doing so, Yibo mentioned that he would like to go to the village, visit his mother and reconcile with his father. Since Zhan could still vividly remember the last time they visited Yibo's parents together, Zhan was naturally less than enthusiastic. After all, the first and last visit there ended with Yibo running off in the middle of the night and leaving Zhan.

But after Yibo promised Zhan several times that it wouldn't be like that time and that he wouldn't run away again, Zhan gave in. Besides, he also thought that Yibo and his father should reconcile. And if Yibo wants him there as moral support, Zhan would not say no and help Yibo.

Early Saturday morning, Zhan and Yibo finally made their way to the village. Yibo was very excited. Not because of his father, because he had already reconciled with him without Zhan's knowledge a few days ago when they talked on the phone, but because Yibo had prepared a surprise and was wondering how Zhan would react.

Yibo was glad that Zhan was driving the car. Because the closer they got to the village, the more nervous he got. He just knew that he wouldn't have been able to drive himself. And just before they reached the village, Yibo could hardly sit still. His hands were shaking and his stomach was rebelling violently.

When they finally reached the village after 2 hours of driving, Yibo was suddenly in quite a hurry to get to his parents' house. He told Zhan that he had to go to the bathroom urgently. Zhan laughed, shook his head and said he would park the car properly and then follow. Yibo nodded and hurried away.

After Zhan parked the car, a couple of Yibo's siblings arrived, whom he remembered from back then. They were dressed in dresses and suits and asked Zhan lots of questions about himself, preventing him from going to the house. But although Zhan was in a hurry to follow Yibo into the house, he gladly answered every question the children asked.
