Chapter Fifteen: His Problem

Vhaela Targaryen

The Grand Maester picks at my wounded arm, and I flinch with every touch. He pokes and prods at it which makes me glare at him. I knew he was doing this for the benefit of my health. But gods did it hurt.

He hums to himself as he examines my arm which was now looking way better than it had after I had been burned. The redness has since died down but the once smooth skin on my hand and lower arm was now wrinkly and jagged.

The appearance of my arm did not really bother me. It reminds me of dragon scales which makes me feel better connected to my heritage. However, the skin feels rough to the touch, and I hated when anyone would feel it.

The Grand Maester then begins to rub a soothing cream on my burn which does not make it hurt. The soothing white cream seeps into my skin with an instant cooling sensation. A breath releases from me at the ease of pain.

He then says to me "Well it only took three moons, but your burn is finally healed."

I look back up at him and a smile forms on my face at his statement. It has been awful having to stay in my chamber for most of my recovery. Especially in the beginning, I could hardly use my hand without being in searing pain.

He gives me a vial of milk of the poppy in case of any pain that may come and go. I give him a nod of my head frantically and he slowly moves to make his way out of my chamber. As soon as he leaves, I get up with a jolt.

I make my way out of my chamber and as soon as I exit the room I am met with Dawsin. He instantly gives me a questioning look. After my adventure in the dragon pit, he has refused to leave my side for anything.

He was livid when he heard of my accident with Dreamfyre. I knew he felt responsible for it, but I would not let him. It was my choice to try and claim a dragon and I knew he would have never let me if I asked.

His eyes move to my right arm which now has fresh salve spread evenly on it. I see a frown appear on his lips which makes me walk closer to him. I reach my other hand out to him and rest it on the side of his arm.

"I am okay now. The burn is all healed now." I say with a reassuring smile.

A heavy sigh leaves his lips as he asks, "Where are you headed now?"

I chuckle and then say as I walk past him "I am off to see Aemond come on."

We then walk out in the hallway with Dawsin trailing closely behind me. Ever since word has spread that I failed to claim a dragon and lived the stares I receive are a lot more noticeable. Servant's eyes widen in shock as they see me pass by.

The nobles would start to whisper as I walk by and try and search for the burn scars that are on my arm. Their stares bothered me a lot more than any stares have since. I would not smile at them as I see them.
