Chapter Twenty-Five: Dragonstone

Vhaela Targaryen

It has now been over a moon since of my arrival to Dragonstone. And already I was bored. There was not much to do on the small mountain of an island. Perhaps it was because of the lack of company here compared to King's Landing.

Where my two best friends are.

The time moved much slower here. The days are much longer. The only small joy I found doing was writing letters to Aemond and Helaena. Every time I picked up one of their letters it would be like they were in the room with me.

A small frown forms on my face at the thought. The letter that I have in my hand reads of Helaena's handwriting and I slowly close my eyes as I bring the letter to my chest. I take in a deep breath as I try to calm myself down.

I then open my eyes back up and begin to break the seal to the letter. Which reads.

To Vhaela,

Life in King's Landing is not the same without you. My chamber is must quieter and hardly anyone enters anymore. It is strange. My evening garden strolls are lonesome without you helping me discover new kinds of bugs. I had begged Aemond to come with me, but he has been in a somber mood since Driftmark. If he is not in his chambers mopping, he is with Vhagar flying around the keep. Mother says he is not allowed to leave the vicinity until he becomes a better rider. I miss you and I wish you were here helping me prepare for my wedding.

Your loving friend,

Helaena

My face turns into a somber expression as I read her letter to me. Knowing that she misses me as much as I miss her helps ease the pain. But knowing that she is probably worried beyond means about having to marry Aegon just makes me worried.

She should never have to marry him. Aegon already at the age of fifteen summers was a known whore and drunk among the capital. Helaena was innocent in all this she did not need to be tied to that for the rest of her life.

It sucked not being able to be there for her and threatening Aegon. If I was there, I am sure I could have set him straight on how to behave once he becomes a husband. The only light I see is knowing I would be able to see her again at her wedding.

It would only make sense that we would attend.

I then quickly grab some paper from my desk along with a quill. I set the letter from Helaena down with her and Aemond's other copies. Where they stay until I think about them during the day and begin to miss them.

They were easily all read at least twice a day.

I quickly then begin writing a letter back to her.

To Helaena,
