Chapter Twelve: Family Fights

Aemond Targaryen

Around my chamber is bustling with servants coming and going through the doors. The giant room is littered with my various clothes all over the floor. I know my mother would throw a fit if she came in with it looking like this.

A heavy sigh releases from me as I look around my chamber. Besides cleaning up my mess there was really nothing I could do. And there is no way I would willingly put myself through that. I am not that bored.

So, my only choice lies outside my chamber door. I pull myself from my chair and decide to walk around the castle to find something pleasant to do. With my door pulled open the guard standing by it allows me to pass.

I make my way out of the royal wing of the castle in a heavy stride. The kingsguard that was at my door followed closely behind me. I did not really mind having a guard follow me around. I knew it gave my mother a sense of comfort knowing I was protected.

Aegon on the other hand found great pleasure in escaping his guard even making it a game to him. For the time being mother did not know of this but she will as soon as Aegon does something that upsets me. Or even Vhaela or Helaena.

I did not understand his annoyance toward the two girls. They are mostly kind toward him. Well, Helaena is usually kind toward him but it's always iffy how Vhaela reacts to him. Those two just do not get along.

Vhaela has pestered me countless times about Aegon's behavior toward her and Helaena. I try to handle him the best I can but there was usually nothing I could do. And I absolutely hated it. An idea then comes into my head, and I shift my direction toward the sparing arena just outside the castle's main walls.

The moment I near the arena I can hear the clanging of wooden sparring swords. Bright silver hair comes into view as my brother swings his sword at Ser Criston Cole. They don't notice my kingsguard and I come into the field.

I watch silently at the two clinging their swords together. It was rather slow to what I think would be considered a real fight, but it was still all the same cool. The two battle against each other a little bit more until they finally come to a stop.

My brother walks away from Ser Criston and the moment he spots me he makes his way over to me. A smirk rests on his mouth as he flips around the sword with his wrist making the sword spin. He then plants the sword in front of him and leans against it.

"What are you doing here?" He asks in a bored drawl.

His question causes me to stay silent in hopes of coming up with an excuse as to why I would be here. I surely could not tell him I wanted to train to be able to threaten him down the road.

He does not give me the chance to respond before he asks, "Were you coming to watch a real warrior train?"

With his words it makes me want to roll my eyes in annoyance, but I refrain.
