Chapter Thirty-Three: Sneaking Around Dragonstone

Vhaela Targaryen

The cool stone stairs cause a small chill to shudder through my body. The action causes Aemond to stop what he was previously saying before furrowing his eyebrows slightly. He lets out a small laugh before moving closer to me on the steps trying to heat me with his body heat.

I let out a small chuckle at his motion before softly saying "Thank you."

He gives me a soft nod before continuing "But yeah, I got caught trying to sneak off one night. My mother had me confined to my chambers for a moon because I would not tell her where I was headed."

My eyes slightly widen at his admission. I was worried during the last moon when Aemond did not show up at our meeting spot. But knowing he did not miss it on purpose eased the crack in my heart. The tiny fear in my head tried to convince me that he did not want to come.

I am glad it was proved wrong by his admission.

"Well, I am glad you were able to get away tonight," I say with a bright smile.

He turns to look at me with a heavy stare moving from my eyes to my dress and back up to my stare. I give him a somewhat confused look. Before he turns away almost bashfully and turns his head up to the night sky.

I stare at him and look at his beautiful slick straight hair that was now much below his shoulders. Aemond then turns to face me, and my eyes move to look at his eye patch that covers his injured eye. A sad smile forms on my lips as I remember the events that took place that night.

I ask softly "Does it still hurt?"

He instantly shakes his head and I then slowly move my hand to his cheek. I hover over the border of his eyepatch faintly touching the edges that are tight against his skin. His breath stills at my action, and I watch as a large gulp runs down his throat.

My fingers then slowly fall from his cheek and my eyes dart between his eye and patch. His eye softens and lowers to stare at the ground for a moment before moving back up to me. He seems to be in deep thought.

He breaks the silence by saying "I want to show you something."

I watch as Aemond moves his hand up to his eyepatch and begins to remove it. My eyes widen as I find two small shimmering sapphires in the place where his eye once was. My mouth slowly drops open in awe at the sight.

I begin to slowly move my fingers up to the sapphires but don't fully touch them. Aemond watches me with a hint of concern in his eye. I take a glance over at him and give him a soft small. But then my eyes widen at a realization.

"They are like Symeon Star-Eyes!" I say brightly to him.

Aemond's mouth immediately turns into a smile at my words. He nods eagerly as he takes his eyepatch fully off his head. He had been the one to tell me of the legend of the remarkable blind knight. It had been so long that I could not believe I remembered his old ramblings.
