Chapter Twenty-Two: The Fight
Vhaela Targaryen
We both walk down the beach line with our arms entwined together. Aemond still carries the giant smile on his face as we walk. It was only slightly irritating, but it was only natural for jealousy to emerge.
Ever since I learned of my father's family traditions, I have wanted a dragon. To be able to have the connection that he had with Caraxes. To know that you would always have someone to count on. A loyal being only to yourself.
That was what Aemond had.
But despite the jealousy that courses through me I still feel immense joy for him. He is my best friend and I know this means everything to him. Aemond turns to look at me with a small smirk of mischief. I narrow my eyes back at him confused.
"Race you back to the castle." He says quickly before lightly shoving me backward.
It causes me to stumble, and I watch as Aemond breaks out into a sprint. I let out a dramatic gasp and my eyes narrow playfully at him.
I yell out before rushing toward him "You cheated!"
I rush at him the best I can in the dress I wear along the water line. He is some ways ahead of me as I pant out heavy breaths with each step I run. Aemond then exits my sights as he enters a small cave-like entrance to the castle.
I stop in my tracks trying to catch my breath. I shake my head from side to side annoyed by him pushing me back. But reluctantly I pick up my rushed steps and head over to him. As I enter the dark cave, I hear several voices.
I then hear Aemond say in a rough tone "Your mother's dead."
My eyes widen at his comment, and I rush forward toward him. The torches on the walls of the cave emit low light around. I look to find my half-sisters and Rhaenyra's children. They all glare at Aemond harshly.
"And Vhagar has a new rider now." Aemond finishes off.
I then see Rhaena step closer as she yells out "She was mine to claim!"
My half-sister was obviously deeply upset at Aemond claiming Vhagar. But she had to understand that just because it was once her mother's dragon does not make Vhagar hers. It is the dragon that chooses its new rider, not the other way around.
Aemond scoffs before yelling back at her "Then you should've claimed her!"
I add standing next to Aemond "She chose him. It is done."
"Maybe your cousins can find you a pig to ride. It would suit you." Aemond lets out as he laughs.
At his comment, my eyes soften, and I turn toward him, but he refuses to meet my stare. He knew what he was saying was hurtful, but he did not care. I knew how much it hurt him to receive that from his nephews. But more importantly his brother.
