Chapter Ten: The New Prince
Vhaela Targaryen
I find myself sitting on one of Helaena's couches in her chamber. Often time I would spend my time here with her rather than alone in my own. Her company has been really soothing since my father's disappearance.
Currently, we do what we always seem to be doing in her chamber. She is with her various bugs and a journal describing everything there is about their appearance. While I sit and read through the tons of history books she has on the walls.
Mostly to do with Aegon's conquest as well as the tales of his famous sister-wives. It still made no sense to me why it was only called Aegon's conquest as he wouldn't have been able to conquer the six kingdoms with the help of his sisters.
I had asked my septa this question and she defended it by saying "Men's names are more recorded than a woman's."
My day had instantly soured at her statement. To think that one-day people would remember Aegon's and Aemond's names and not mine simply because I am a girl enrages me. I knew my mother would not stand for it so I shall do the same.
I quickly turn over the pages that cover the life of Aegon until I finally reach Visenya's. My finger flows on the page as I slowly take the time to reach each word. It follows the text as the words begin to invade my mind.
A sudden knock then echoes throughout the chamber, and I simply ignore it while Helaena beckons them inside. I can hear the door opening and the sound of footsteps approaching which finally makes me look up from my reading.
There Aemond stands at the entrance, and he gives me a guilty expression. It has been almost a moon since Aegon had decided to say those awful things about my father. I was still mad at him but much less so than with Aemond.
Trying to ease him I give him a soft smile which he quickly returns. I then notice the way his arms are behind his back as if he was hiding something. He then turns to Helaena who is now looking at him with a blank stare.
Aemond cautiously makes his way toward her and brings his hands forward in front of him. There he then opens them and from the spot, I am in I can see Helaena's eyes gleaming in delight. Her mouth instantly forms a smile, and she quickly reaches out to him.
With that, she grabs something out of his hand, and at the sight of it, I grimace. It is a very long bug that seems to have hundreds of tiny legs. Even though I thought it was extremely disgusting I know Helaena is extremely happy to add a new bug to her collection.
Aemond breaks the silence by saying "I found him in the garden, and I thought you would like him."
Helaena does not say anything in return but only brightly smiles at the new creature she is holding. She then spares a glance toward her brother and gives him a warm smile before turning away to where she was before with her other creatures.
