Chapter Thirty-Eight: A Change in Power
Vhaela Targaryen
The wind flows straight through me, and it causes me to grip the saddle handles tighter. I feel the hands of Rhaena wrapping around my body as she holds on for dear life. I let out a small laugh which shakes my body softly.
We fly over the vast ocean empty ocean in the direction of Dragonstone. After I had finally gotten Cannibal used to the lighter saddle, I managed to convince Rhaena to fly with me. At first, she was very skeptical. Rightfully so.
Her main concern was being eaten.
I remember how scared her eyes were when she first met Cannibal. Her eyes were wide and her mouth slightly ajar. But once I got her on him, she was all for it. Especially because I was flying her to Driftmark as promised.
It has now been a moon since I had taken her, and I was now bringing her back to our dreaded island. I still remember just how angry my father had been when he found out I took her. It still brings a smile to my face at the thought of his screaming red face.
In the far distance, I see the large castle of Dragonstone and a heavy sigh escapes me in the air. A low rumble of Cannibal can be heard from under us. This makes Rhaena grab onto my body even tighter. I remove one of my hands from the saddle handle and move it to her hand to reassure her.
I then swiftly move it back to the handle as I direct Cannibal to descend to bring us closer to the land. Down below I find the small dragon Vermax standing on the ground. A smile begins to form on my lips as I spot Jacaerys with him.
With a swift pull of the handle, I make Cannibal head in their direction. The large flap of Cannibal's wings pulls the attention of the much smaller dragon. As we descend down closer to them, I hear a small roar emit from Vermax.
We float in the air before Cannibal roughly lands against the ground. He instantly stretches his head out to the younger dragon and emits a loud roar. It causes a slight shake to the nearby ground, and I can feel Rhaena's hand grasp me firmly.
In an instant, I watch as Vermax flees from the ground and swiftly heads up in the air. My face then turns to Jacaerys whose eyes refuse to leave my dragons. A small smirk replaces my smile as I stare down at him as he looks at Cannibal with utter fear in his eyes.
I move my leg from the saddle and quickly make my way down from Cannibal. My movement causes my dragon to turn his head in my direction. I give him a quick smile before my eyes turn back to the bastard. His eyes are less wide than before and a small glare forms in his eyes.
I let out a small huff and hear the movement of Rhaena moving down from Cannibal. Once she is down on the ground, I hear the loud steps of Cannibal as he begins to near Jacaerys. He raises his head and I swiftly turn to make sure there are no flames starting to arise.
