Chapter Seventy-Six: The Elusive Horizon
Vhaela Targaryen
We stand side by side on one of the lower balconies of Harrenhal. The cool breeze in the air rustles my silver hair as we stare down at the soldiers below, each of them engrossed in completing their assigned tasks.
I tilt my head and spot Aemond staring down my way. Rather than meeting my eyes, he focuses on the now noticeable bump that protrudes from my tight black tunic. Though I feel somewhat suffocated, I find it considerably more comfortable than wearing any of my numerous dresses.
I would need to start acquiring some new ones and fast.
Aemond's hand reaches out and places it firmly on the bump. A smile beams on my lips at the sight of him, and I find my hand moving to rest upon his. In response, he lifts his gaze, allowing me to catch a glimpse of his lilac and sapphire eye.
He offers me a soft smile before telling me, "Go take some time to rest. I'll manage things around the castle for a while."
A soft sigh exits my lips at his suggestion, and I ask him hesitantly. "Are you sure?"
Aemond firmly nods his head, solidifying his idea. My smile widens at the thought of escaping this tight tunic for a while. I then feel Aemond's hand trail upward toward my cheek, gently pulling me closer to him.
His lips meet mine in a soft, chaste kiss. As we begin to part, I rise on my tiptoes, reconnecting our lips once more. At my action, Aemond quickly takes charge, and our kiss deepens with a newfound intensity. One of his free hands grips the side of my neck, helping me to stay in place.
In a rush I run my fingers through the back of his hair, playing with some of the strands with each touch of our lips. Our heads tilt in sync, each movement deepening the passionate kiss. Slowly, Aemond's hand wanders to my backside, his touch causing my lips to part with a small gasp.
His smile presses against my lips before he gradually starts to pull away. A playful smile emerges on my face as I look up at him, and I lightly hit his chest. This elicits a gentle laughter from him, the sound echoing through the air.
"I'll join you up there in a little while." He says suggestively.
A smirk engulfs the corners of his lips, and in response, I shake my head before gracefully turning on my heel. As I walk away, I glance over my shoulder to catch Aemond's appreciative gaze scanning me from head to toe. I can't help but roll my eyes in amusement at his lustful stare before I watch him turn to depart in the opposite direction.
Continuing down the vast hallway, I make my way toward our chambers. Servants cross my path, offering soft smiles and bowing their heads, while guards immediately halt their movements, greeting me with respectful bows. As normal, the castle bustles with activity, as people rush around tending to various tasks.
