Chapter 12

Two weeks later... 

Bucky's POV...

Since the water balloon when I almost lost cool with Mia, I've been trying to avoid her at all costs and I think she's noticed. I'm not sure where she's been lately but I haven't seen a ton of her around the compound, but her car is never missing which means she's either using one of Tony's cars, with someone or she's still here. I'm not a car guy by any means I just know that the really expensive-looking car in the garage that's painted likely a custom shade of purple, is hers. Probably a gift from Tony for something. Do normal parents buy their kids cars this nice or is it just because he has more money than he knows what to do with? I want to go find Mia but what reason would I give for why I went to go track her down? That I miss our banter and our teasing. There's been a few times we've bantered and played but it was mostly in front of other people who were now convinced we hate each other. Don't get me wrong, the woman drives me batshit crazy but she's intoxicating to be around and she's unbelievably gorgeous. There's just something about her that I can't quite put my finger on but it draws me into her every single goddamn time I'm near her. Now that I've gotten close enough to know what she smells like or more specifically what her hair and her perfume smell like, it's harder to ignore it. A big downside of being a super soldier is all of my senses are heightened, including my smell so I can often tell when she's recently been in a room. I was talking to Steve the other day and I could smell her perfume all over them. So much for not being Steve's girl huh?

Today I had to go visit Bruce in his lab because I was having issues with my arm. I may heal very quickly but that doesn't mean I'm enjoying whatever reaction my body is having to my metal arm right now. It looks like an infection to me but I've never been sick or had an infection since I received the serum, that doesn't mean it's impossible but we've always assumed it wouldn't happen. Steve has also never been sick since or had any infections from anything. I'd been putting it off for weeks but I could barely move my arm some days and Alpine will not leave it alone, it's almost like she was concerned and trying to tell me to stop being so damn stubborn about it but then again, she's a cat. Bruce said he'd be down here pretty much all day today so I decided to head down around midday. I took the long way through the compound, hoping for just a glimpse of those hazel eyes or just a little giggle. This is gross. I hate how I'm acting about Tony's daughter and I hate that I'm obsessed without even knowing her but good god do I want to get to know her. One of the things that made her so easy to talk to or be around was that she never acted afraid of me and she didn't treat me differently. Sure she called me cyborg or tinman but they were nicknames. If I hadn't been a dick to her right off the bat then we'd likely be friends by now. When I got down to the lab Bruce wasn't in his so I decided to investigate the other labs just in case. I looked in Tony's lab but there was no one in it even though the light was on. The lab on the other side of Bruce's was empty as well so I turned to head back up to my room. Just before I got on the elevator I heard the sound of music playing somewhere and I noticed the lab next to Tony's had a dim light on as well. There she sat at a table with her head bobbing along to the music as she worked on something in front of her. I couldn't help but watch and even more, I couldn't stop myself when I knock on the door softly before I opened it. 

"Oh, Bucky, hi. What are you doing down here?"

"Looking for Bruce, I was hoping you might know where to find him since you're down here."

"He went with Clint and Tony to get some lunch. What do you need from Bruce?"

"It's nothing, I'll just come back later and let you get back to your tinkering."

"Tinkering?"

"I don't know what else to call it."

"You know Tinman, I have a master's degree in engineering. I'm not tinkering, I'm working on a new suit for myself and trying to upgrade Tony's. In fact, I'm thinking about trying to design new suits for the whole team."
