Mia's POV...
If this man doesn't let me go and stop touching me then we're going to have a problem. That problem being me getting on my knees and undoing his pants in the middle of my lab but a problem nonetheless. He let go of me with a deep chuckle and I took myself to finish up with his arm. Luckily his story took about an hour to tell with the amount of detail I asked for so I was almost done. "It's my turn to play one hundred questions. Why engineering?"
"Well, I loved to build things and create things when I was little. It started with Legos and very quickly advanced from there. Tony noticed it and started taking me to his lab occasionally to watch him work. I was helping with his designs by the age of eight and I just loved it. The older I got, the more I loved watching something turn from a thought to a blueprint to a model to a finished project. It's easy for me and it makes me happy."
"You didn't quit after the accident?"
"For a little while I did but not because I didn't want to do it but because I missed him."
"Tony?"
"No. Sure I mean I missed him too but I wasn't grieving him."
"You were grieving the other intern."
"Yes. My Uhm, my brother."
"You mean to tell me someone had no or one but two kids with Tony, your mom must've been very forgiving."
I couldn't help but laugh at him. "You know, he wasn't always such a pain in the ass."
"What was he like? When you were little I mean."
"He was gone a lot with work but when he'd come home each night the first thing he'd do is give me and...he'd give us kids a hug and kiss our heads then he'd do the same with our mom. On weekends he'd take us out to do things like bowl or shoot pool even. We watched movies together every Friday night unless he got stuck at work. There was a time when he was a good dad, a little absentee at times sure but overall pretty good. He missed my brother's sports games sometimes and he'd always come to my science fairs and our mathlete competitions. The alcohol wasn't so much of an issue until after. We were a happy family for the most part. I learned later that my mom was unhappy in their marriage because she felt like there wasn't enough time for her since he spent so much time with us and work."
"Were your parents married?"
"Yes for almost 15 years. They got married after my brother was born. I guess it was rocky after mom found out she was pregnant since they just hooked up a few times. They eventually started dating and got married when he was like two or something. Well fast-forward two more years and they had me, I was planned though. Then 12 years later everything fell apart, including their marriage and they divorced. It was nasty and there was so much happening, it's kind of a blur honestly."
"I think the forgetting part or the blur part is a trauma thing like your brain blocks it out to try and protect you."
"Who knew you're really James Bucky Barnes, the psychology." I teased
"I've learned a thing or two about trauma in my court-ordered therapy. Did your mom get full custody of you then?"
"Yeah but it's not like Tony even tried to fight it. He offered to pay child support and pay for all of my schoolings but that was it. I got to see him once or twice a month after the dust settled but that became every other month then every six months then maybe once a year."
"Is that what you wanted?"
"No, I just wanted my dad. Sure, I blamed him for what happened but I didn't hate him and I missed him so much. I was always such a daddy's girl and mom hated that. She still hates that."
