He left me there in the bathroom and I looked down at his blood on my hands, some of it dried from earlier and some fresh. All I could think of was the last time my hands were covered in blood.
*Flashback*
I couldn't hear anything my ears were ringing so loudly. At first nothing hurt other than my ears but I looked down and saw the blood on my shirt. There was glass and debris all around me as well as people all across the floor. Almost no one one moved as I sat up and looked around. Everything seemed to be spinning and my headed started to throb. It took a few more seconds for me to process what happened, the lab blew up. There was blood everywhere from everyone I could see. Just moments before I was working on my newest invention and I was about to call Jeremy over to look at it. Jeremy. Where is he? I started calling his name but I couldn't hear my own voice very well. It took me a minute of frantically searching all of the bodies before I found him face down. I fell to my knees and struggled to pull him onto his back. He was covered in blood and his eyes were closed but I could feel his heart beat. It was faint but it was there. "Jeremy open your eyes please, you have to be okay please." I begged through my tears
There was no response and all I could do was sob and plead with my head on his chest. I screamed for help until my throat hurt but no one came and I sat there feeling his heart beat fade. That's where they found me nearly an hour later. I didn't know how long it was but that was what the first responder said when he looked at everyone. "Its been an hour since the explosion, it's too late for everyone here."
They tried to talk to me, to ask me to move off of his cold body. I wouldn't move, I couldn't talk and I didn't know how to move anymore. How was i supposed to function without my best friend? My big brother? How do I go on when his blood is covering my clothes and my skin? When he's not going to be around anymore? I'll never hear his laugh again or see his smile or see the face he makes when he's thinking hard again. He'll never call me mini Mia like dad does or Mimi or punk or girl wonder or any nickname again. I'll never get to hug him or cry on his shoulder again. He won't ever graduate high school or go to college or get married. Where's dad? Is he even alive? They dragged me kicking and screaming from his body and forced me down the stairs and outside. Every floor, every room was littered with bodies and I pit in my stomach grew. They sat me in an ambulance to wrap the wounds I had but they said it wasn't serious. "Where's my dad?" I asked the woman
"Who's your dad sweetie?"
"Tony Stark, I thought he was here today but I didn't see his body."
"Let me check."
She walked away and a few minutes later she returned with Tony walking behind her. I met him halfway and hugged him tightly as he kissed my head. "You're okay Mia, I thought you were both gone. How are you alive? Weren't you in the reactor room?"
"Yes but I don't know how I lived. Everyone is dead, Jeremy is dead."
"I know, they brought out his body and I was waiting for yours next but they didn't find it. You need to go in the ambulance now, I will call Mom and we will meet you there."
"No, daddy no please don't make me go just let me stay with you." I begged
"Sweetheart you have to go to the hospital, I can't risk anything happening to you. I've already lost one kid today, I can't lose both."
"I don't want to go."
"You have to, you're covered in blood."
"It's not mine."
"Still, I will be right behind you. Just please do not be stubborn today, just listen."
I listened to his plea and let them take me in the ambulance. On the ride there I just stared at my hands, covered in my brother's blood and I didn't even know how to process. All I knew is he was gone.
