Another Hero Gained

Speed POV

Scrolling through my contacts I tap her name. After three rings I hear her voice.

Ruby: "Hey N/N."

Speed: "Hey. Say what're you doing right now?"

Ruby: "Just listening to Port ramble. Why?"

Speed: "You're gonna wanna hear this."

I tell her the summarized version of what I was told.

Speed: "So yeah I kinda need to go off world to help save the day."

Ruby: "I don't know. I mean you've only been back a week. You sure you're up for this kinda thing?"

Speed: "Like what I've been telling you for the past week. I'm back to one hundred percent."

Ruby: "I know. But what if something were to happen? I might lose you."

Speed: "Hey. Remember what I said the day I came back?"

Ruby: "Yes. You said you'd never leave me."

Speed: "And I meant it. I'll never leave you. I'll always be here."

There's a few minutes of silence. She then sighs.

Ruby: "Just promise me you'll be back by the time school's over."

Speed: "I'll guarantee it."

Ruby: "I love you."

I smile.

Speed: "I love you too."

Y/N POV

Speed comes back with a smile on his face.

Speed: "You have my services."

We smile.

Iron: "Welcome aboard kid."

Speed: "So what's our first mission?"

Y/N: "Answer us this. How fast exactly are you?"

Speed: "Pretty darn fast. Why?"

Iron: "Show us."

He becomes slightly uneasy.

Y/N: "What's wrong?"

Speed: "It's just... I made a promise to only go so fast."

Y/N: "Why?"

Speed: "Nearly two weeks ago I went fast. Faster than time itself."

Y/N: "What happened?"

Speed: "I rewound time. But as punishment I was erased from reality. For what felt like years I was floating in a blank void. But then flecks of light showed up and brough me back. Ever since I made a vow to never travel that fast again. Because I never wanna go through that ever again."

I pat his shoulder.

Y/N: "It's okay. We're not gonna let that happen. Which is why I'm gonna help you."

He tilts his head.

Speed: "How?"

Amica appears.

Y/N: "My friend hear has an ability that saps away strength. When you start to lose it he'll take just enough away to keep you from losing control."

Speed: "Can you truly do that?"

Amica: "I can do anything."

He smiles.

Speed: "Then let's do it."

We now find ourselves back in the forest. One of Amica's tendrils sprouts from my shoulder wrapping around Speed's chest.

Speed: "It's really cold."

Y/N: "Really? Doesn't feel that way to me."

He looks at Iron who's watching with a smile on his face.

Speed: "So explain what I'm gonna be doing."

Iron: "By using that speed of yours you're gonna open us a dimensional rift."

Y/N: "And you're sure he's capable of something like that?"

Iron: "Of course. It's really simple actually. With enough speed physics become nonexistent."

He gives a thumbs up.

Iron: "You got this."

Speed looks at me.

Speed: "Ready?"

I nod.

Y/N: "Whenever you are."

He takes a deep breath. He holds out his arm. It begins vibrating. Slowly it begins getting faster.

Y/N: "How're you doing?"

Speed: "Fine for now. Gonna kick it up a notch."

Lightning now crackles over his arm. Not even three seconds later his whole body begins emitting lightning making my eyes narrow.

Y/N: "No you don't. Amica."

Amica: "Copy."

I feel this surge of energy. Immediately my heart beats faster.

Y/N: "Damn, so much energy. You sure we can handle it?"

Amica: "For now."

The wind goes crazy as parts of Speed's arm fades in and out of reality.

Iron: *over wind* "How're you doing!?!?"

Speed: "One more gear!!!!"

His arm disappears while making a slash motion. There's a couple seconds of silence. A rift then explodes into existence. I recall the goo looking at the kid.

Y/N: "You did it. Nice job kid."

He exhales bringing his arm to a full stop.

Speed: "Thanks."

Iron joins us as we walk through the rift.
