Save The Tree

Glitch POV

I dive behind a root. Slightly peeking over I see Deus looking around for me.

Deus: "It's no use hiding. I can feel that power of yours."

I slink behind another root.

Deus: "It's so odd. I feel drawn to it. Like a moth to a flame. It calls to me."

I peek over the root. But I scream as I'm drug then suspended upside down. Deus gets in my face.

Deus: "Explain to me why that is."

Glitch: "Never."

He narrows his eyes, peering into my soul. They then widen.

Deus: "John."

They once again narrow.

Deus: "No. Not John. At least not only him. I sense... myself."

He displays understanding.

Deus: "I understand now. You're a clone of us. When we bonded and became one. Someone somehow stole the body, harvested our power and implanted it in your DNA. That's the only logical explanation."

He smiles.

Deus: "This' perfect. Since you carry my DNA I could bound to you, once more having a physical body."

I narrow my eyes.

Glitch: "I'll die before I let that happen."

Deus: "You'll die irregardless."

He lifts his hand, slowly bringing it closer to me.

Deus: "It's only a matter of if you fight back while it happens."

His hand gets an inch away from my heart when we hear a voice.

Ember: "Kid!!!"

I smile as the others return. Deus turns to them baring his teeth.

Deus: "Heroes."

Glitch: "Now what're you gonna do?"

He looks at me displaying nothing but anger on his face. But the place suddenly rumbles. We all turn to the Tree. The heavenly shine fully fades. The area covered by the black mark splits open and rapidly spreads. All of our eyes widen as the Tree now begins tilting.

Deus: "It's done. I've won."

He fades into the ground.

Ember: "Everyone, keep the tree from falling!!!!"

3rd POV

The heroes all rush to the Tree of Reality. Noir and Lily use webs and tendrils to latch onto the Tree. Ember slings Hellion's chain around the Tree. Axel fires a wire which he, Chase and Glitch all pull. Meanwhile Zander flies behind the Tree and uses all of his strength to push the Tree the other way.

Ember: "Heave!!!"

Each hero digs into all of the strength, trying to keep the Tree from falling.

Ember: "Use every ounce of strength you've got!! If this falls, we're all fucked!!!"

Again all heroes exert all of their energy into pulling the Tree back up. But the Tree simply keeps falling.

Zander: "I can't hold it any longer!!!"

His strength gives as he falls to the ground. One by one the rest of the heroes give to exhaustion. When the last falls so to does the Tree. Upon hitting the ground the branches shatter into thousands of pieces.

Axel: "We failed."

Lily: "Guys... I'm not feeling so good."

They look at her as she melts into a puddle before being absorbed into the ground. A scream is heard. They look to see Chase burst into lightning. Next is Axel who rusts up before exploding into dust. Behind him is Noir whose body devolves into nothingness.

Following closely behind her is Zander who breaks down into various dust types that blow away in the wind. Finally is Ember who screams as she bursts into a pillar of fire, leaving only her Grandpa's jacket.

Glitch POV

I watch in horror as the others fade from existence. Nothing but dread and terror fill me. I close my eyes, awaiting my turn. But instead I hear pitch silence. Opening my eyes I find myself in a solid white area.

Glitch: "Where am I?"

I flinch as my voice echoes.

Glitch: "Hello? Anybody here?"

I bring my arms close realizing no one else is here. I then hang my head.

Glitch: "So this' what hell is. Pure isolation. Truly and utterly alone."

???: "You are not alone my child."

I lift my head.

Glitch: "Who said that?"

???: "I did."
