Y/n POV
Newt carried me to the shower block and told me to wait while he got some clean clothes. I sat on the floor while I waited, I leaned my head back and closed my eyes. Newt shook me awake and I blinked and sat up. Newt brushed hair from my face.
"You okay?" He asked, his voice thick with his accent.
"I love your accent so much," I mumbled sleepily, he smirked.
"Come on Y/n, you wanted to have a shower," he pulled me to my feet.
I stepped into one of the showers and shut the curtain. I stripped off my clothes and wrapped them in a ball before dumping them over the top of the curtain. I turned on the water, for once I didn't mind that it was cold. I scrubbed the dirt and dried blood from my skin and hair and occasionally talked to Newt over the noise of the water. After I shut the water off, Newt handed me my towel and clean clothes over the top of the curtain. I got dressed and pulled the curtain aside.
I used the towel to start to dry my hair. He pulled me over to the sink. He carefully cleaned the wound on my hand, which was an angry red colour, and wrapped it up again. I felt Newt staring at me and I looked at him. He was standing quite close to me, close enough that I could see the beginning of tears in his eyes. I pulled him close and he buried his face into my neck.
"I thought I lost you," he sobbed into me. I started crying.
"I was so scared, but you kept me going."
He pulled back to look at me, "Me?"
"Yes you, you idiot."
"Would you mind elaborating?" He asked. I laughed and wiped away some of his tears.
"Well, for starters, your smile. That smirk you do sometimes, I love it. Your eyes make me want to melt, the way they glow almost gold in sunlight. I love how you always know what to do when I need you, hugs, kisses and stuff like that. I love how you make me feel. My heart skips beats when I look at you, every time you touch me I feel like I'm flying. You make me laugh so hard I can't breathe and I just want you to be right next to me all day every day. I love it when you call me that pet name. I also want you to kiss me like you did earlier."
Newt leaned in and kissed me hard. He pushed me gently against the wall and my hands slid into his hair.
"I love you, I love you," he repeated between kisses. I murmured it back each time.
"Hey Y/n, Newt—" Frypan entered the building and yelped when he saw us and looked away. "Ahh, sorry."
"It's okay, Fry," I said, neither me nor Newt moved from where we were. I cleared my throat awkwardly, "So uh, you need something?"
"Gally wants a meeting in a couple minutes."
"Okay, we'll be there," I said and he left quickly. As soon as he left Newt pressed another kiss to my lips.
"We should probably go," he said.
"Yeah."
"I don't want to," his eyes flickered over my face and smirked before kissing me again.
"Same, but we really should go," I pecked him on the lips and he released me from the wall.
We walked to the council building and Newt leaned against one of the poles while I stood next to him.
"Things are changing, there's no denying that. First, Ben gets stung in broad daylight, and then Alby. And now our Greenie here has taken it upon himself to go into the maze, which is a clear violation of our rules here," Gally said to the crowd of boys that had gathered.
"Yeah, but he saved Alby's life," Frypan countered.
"Did he? For three years, we have coexisted with these things and now, you've killed one of them. Who knows what that could mean for us."
"What do you suggest we do?" Newt asked.
"He has to be punished," Gally stated. The boys erupted in protest.
"He killed a Griever!" Someone shouted.
"Minho, you were there with him. What do you think?" Newt asked.
"I think in all the time we've been here no one has ever killed a Griever before. When I turned tail, grabbed Y/n and ran, this dumb shank stayed behind to help Alby. Look, I don't know if he's brave or stupid but whatever it is, we need more of it." Minho paused for a moment for dramatic effect. "I say we make him a runner."
"A runner? What?" Frypan exclaimed. "Minho, let's not jump the gun here—"
"Thomas! Thomas! Thomas!" Chuck chanted but stopped when no one joined in.
Newt had that amused smirk on his face and I stared at him because he looked gorgeous. He caught me staring and I quickly looked away.
"What?" He asked, I blushed.
"You're pretty," I whispered in his ear. He smirked and his arm slid around my waist but I moved back. "Focus," I whispered and winked at him, he scowled.
"If you want to throw the newbie a parade, that's fine. Go ahead. But if there is one thing I know about the maze is that you do not—" Gally was cut off by a familiar noise blaring through the room.
Everyone froze for a second and then started moving. Newt shot a glance at me and he and Gally started running for the doors. I followed behind them. We ran across the Glade towards the box, Newt and Gally opened the doors on top of the box and Newt jumped down. I stared down at the person lying on the floor of the box. Shock flooded through me.
"Newt, what do you see?" Someone asked.
"It's a girl," Newt said slowly.
I heard the boys mumble uneasily.
"I think she's dead," Newt said.
"What's in her hand?" Gally asked, spying the white piece of paper tucked away in her hand. Newt pulled it out of her hand and unfolded the paper.
"She's the last one ever," he read and looked up at us, "What the hell does that mean?"
The girl took a sharp breath and jolted awake, her eyes flew open. "Thomas," she said and then she went limp and her eyes fluttered closed.
Everyone looked at Thomas.
"Do you still think I'm overreacting?" Gally asked the group.
