TW: death, descriptions of pain, blood.

The Snake materialised next to me. The panicked shouts of my friends carried over the gap between the buildings.

"How did you know?" she asked, one of her annoying little smirks plastered on her face.

"I saw you knock that book over."

Livia hummed thoughtfully. "Last chance, surrender and we won't have to hurt you." She moved towards me, making me step back.

My back was to the door. I had the advantage. Livia knew this. The one in front of me was an illusion.

"Yeah, I don't think so." I brought my arm up and smashed it against the real her, standing behind me.

I shoved her, sending her sprawling into a table. Lightning bubbled in my veins as I bolted. I unleashed it behind me, shredding the room and blowing out the walls in a deafening explosion.

I sprinted, ducking gunshots and darting through panicked people running around. Thomas and Brenda were soon in sight.

"What are you doing? You should have left?" Brenda yelled at me.

"The Snake's here!" I shouted, managing to catch up as we ran. "I cut the rope so she couldn't follow. My brother's here too!"

Brenda swore and we ran past a table covered in paper.

"Wait!" I called, skidding to a stop.

I snatched a red marker, scribbling a message as neatly as I could in code. "If anything happens, give this to Alex at the Right Arm. He can read it."

I handed it to Thomas who shoved it in his pocket.

We continued to run, soon meeting with some soldiers. They came out of nowhere, forcing us to clamber over railing and along some metal buildings.

My heart pounded wildly in my chest at the sight of the floor far below. It was irrational, since I could easily stop myself falling now.

"Brenda! Where are we going?" Thomas yelled over the noise—which I noticed was music—blaring through the speakers. He glanced back at me, then past me.

A soldier was making his way after us.

"Hurry! The song is almost over!" Brenda yelled back, climbing over the railing on the opposite side.

We hurried along. We were almost there when a loud explosion rocked the building. Fire burned brightly below, forcing us to throw ourselves to get onto the walkway with Brenda. The roof soon collapsed inward, sending fire upwards.

We ran along, dodging flames and debris falling.

Blue light slammed into me, sending me flying to the ground. Thomas screamed my name as flaming rubble crashed between us.

"Go!" I screamed back, pushing myself up.

Nikolai came straight out of the fire, blue light flaring around him. I ran, trying to lead him out of the room so he wouldn't be hurt. I slammed into an invisible wall.

"Seriously?" I shouted at Livia.

I felt my way around and started down a different path with my hand outstretched. Nik threw his power at me, barely missing me.

"Nik! I know you're in there! I know you said do nothing but I'm going to save you!" I yelled at him, bolting down a different adjoining corridor. I ran and ran right into a dead ended room.

I turned around.

Nikolai appeared—thanks to Livia's illusions—and pressed his hand to my head.

I supposed Coralie wanted to erase more of my memory, but Nik did the opposite.
