Warnings: violence, death, blood etc

In a moment I will wake up, I told myself. This isn't real. I will wake up and I will go find him and tell him that I love him. I will tell him I'm sorry and that I didn't mean what I said. I love him as much as I loved Lillian and I could never choose between them. I will tell him what I did.

Movement slowly drained from his face, already blank with shock. My heart dropped to my stomach. The next few seconds ticked by in slow motion. Slow enough I saw the fading fear and pain clouding his eyes. The slow spread of the dark stain, spreading out and then trickling down. Nik's knees gave way, revealing the Wolf standing behind him. The gun was still in his hand, still raised.

The sight was a bucket of cold water. I faintly was aware of myself screaming for Alex as I started to run to the only family I had left in this world.

James merely flicked his hand and the bullet rewound through time and straight into my leg. The pain knocked the breath out of me, my body nearly crashing to the ground.

Nik's eyes were only on me as he slumped sideways, his eyes already slipping shut. Soldiers were shooting at me but they were dead without so much more as a thought from me.

"Nik!" I screamed, limping forward through the pain. "Nik!"

His mouth tried to form the words but the tension left his body.

Coralie appeared in a fizzle of fire and snatched my brother. James placed a hand on her shoulder.

"No!" The word tore itself from me alongside a bolt of lightning.

Too late, they were gone.

Not again, not again, not again, not again.

This isn't real.

Wake up.

This can't be real.

I can't be alone.

'You're never alone,' the Wraith whispered in my mind.

My legs finally gave way, my knees already hitting the ground before I had fully registered it. Wet blood stained my hands and I was distantly aware of the bodies scattered around me.

In the earth below was a pipe. I could sense air in it, thick with something else. Gas. Pipes of it ran into the building. It took a few seconds to break them. Wind tore through my hair and against my skin but I couldn't feel it. The storm raged overhead, picking up and ripping loose debris into the air.

"Y/n!" someone was yelling over the roaring wind and indistinguishable gabble of screams in my head.

Vince.

Vince was screaming my name from where he was sheltering behind a vehicle. Soldiers were shooting at him, I electrified them all, expecting that to be why he was calling for me.

"Y/n!" Vince still yelled, trying to rush towards me. "Behind you!"

Rough fingers pressed against my temple and I tilted my head to see the Phoenix smirking down at me. Pain speared through my head, knocking my body writhing against the dirt. I screamed, clutching weakly for my splitting head. Tears blurred my vision with the intrusion of her mind control fighting my willpower.

Red light broke the dark sky. Fog rolled it, bloody and swelling. Puddles rippled, dark and clotted. The white throne gleamed wickedly. Flashes of memory zapped by, giving my nemesis a perfect overview of exactly what was wrong with me.

The smug expression bled away to horror. Her face slackened, followed by a weak shake. "No..."

"Yes," the Wraith snarled, hatred bare and raw.

Everything went blissfully dark.
