Alex's POV

I forced the wound to seal back together, stopping the blood flow before I switched to healing her internally. Healing her was like pushing a boulder up a hill, but slowly the damage began to reverse until it was undone.

Her pulse fluttered wearily under my shaky finger tips. An even shakier exhale left my body as I slumped over.

Newt knelt next to me, breathing heavily. "Is she..."

"She'll be okay," I answered.

The panic screaming through my veins began to settle. I'd nearly lost it when I saw her body. I thought she was dead. I wouldn't have done anything if Newt hadn't yelled at me to do something.

Élliot shoved through the people crowded around us. He nearly knocked Newt over in his desperation to reach her. His fingers were on her neck instantly, checking her pulse.

"She tore it out deliberately," Felix said, standing nearby.

"I knew I should've have left her alone," Newt said, pressing his hands to his face. "I knew something wasn't right."

"If you all weren't making her life even more miserable, she wouldn't have," Élliot snapped, scooping her up in his arms and striding away.

I helped Élliot wrap her in blankets, keeping her away from everyone in the corner of our current camp. She was still asleep, looking more peaceful then she had in weeks.

"Newt," Élliot said suddenly, hands clenched by his side. "Watch her."

Newt's eyes lifted from Y/n as Élliot seized me by my collar and pulled me away from camp.

He turned on his heel, eyes whirling like blue fire. In an instant, I was reminded that he wasn't just some concerned friend of Y/n's, he was the Corrupt King of Mexico City who possessed extreme levels of power and was capable of horrific things.

"You listen here," he began, voice thick with his accent in his anger. "It wasn't her fault."

"I know that!" I snapped, folding my arms. "She's his twin sister. I can't even look at her without seeing his face. I can't be around her—"

Élliot shoved me against a rock, getting close in my face. "You can and you will. Pull yourself together!"

"Alex! Élliot!" Newt's worried voice called.

He let go of me, already running. I was quick to follow him back.

Y/n was sitting up, hand over her heart. She looked up as I got closer. "What did you do?"

I winced at the heavy exhaustion in her tone. Her eyes were dead as they met mine. Her face was void of colour as it had been since she nearly bled out.

Élliot knelt by her side. "May I hug you?"

Y/n nodded, letting him draw her closer. Her chin rested on her shoulder, eyes still on mine. He cradled her so carefully in his arms as if she was the most precious and fragile thing in the world.

Her eyes bore mercilessly into mine, two simple words leaving her mouth. "Kill me."

My gun was in my hand a second later despite my attempts to fight for control of my body.

Hypnosis.

Newt tackled me right as I pulled the trigger. The gun went off, firing past Y/n as Élliot flung them both to the ground, covering her with his own body.
