Adeline was the first to the train station. She took a taxi and was terrified that she'd get stuck in traffic so she ended up leaving an hour earlier than she had to. So Adeline sat on a bench outside Platform 9 3/4 and people watched. She saw loved ones reuniting, business men rushing, and families traveling. She was in the middle of inventing a fascinating story about a seemingly normal man whose briefcase actually carried international drugs when she heard the undeniable laugh of her least favorite Gryffindor.
Adeline turned around and saw Lupin approaching the brick wall with his parents. Adeline might hate Remus Lupin, but she could not deny that his parents, in particular his mom, were two of the kindest people she met. But maybe they faked it like her son. A family of wolves disguised in sheep's clothing.
"See Remu you're not the first one here after all!" Hope gave a wave to Adeline who returned it with a small smile.
"Wilson doesn't count. Come on the train will get here soon so I might as well get the boys and I a prime cart." Remus beckoned his parents towards the platform. They shook their heads at Remus' out of character rude response.
Adeline rolled her eyes and watched as the family ran into the wall just to vanish into the platform.
Soon more families started to arrive so Adeline got up and made her way onto the train as well, picking a nice compartment near the back. Adeline sat by the window watching a family with an assumed first year nervously eyeing the train. When she tore her eyes away, Dorcas Meadows popped her head into the door frame.
"Is this Miss Adeline Wilson's compartment?"
"Well I do believe it is Miss Meadows."
"Then I must insist on joining you, I have heard such good things."
"Certainly not. I only accept the worst things said about me. Those are the ones that are true."
Dorcas and Adeline erupt into a fit of laughter at their own stupid behavior.
"Why do I put up with this shit?" Marlene sighed as she appeared in the doorway.
"Is it because I'm so pretty and perfect and you're in love with me?" Dorcas said with a smile.
"Nah that can't be it." Dorcas tried to frown at the words but could barely hold back the smile bubbling underneath. "Alright fine I suppose that's why."
Marlene entered the compartment and put her arm around Dorcas and gave her kisses on the cheek.
"You two are sickening." Adeline said while fake gagging.
"We could start making out if it makes you more comfortable?" Marlene retorted with a wink.
"That's tempting, but I am going to have to go with no."
The three girls joked around for a bit more but when the train started moving they settled into their typical routine. Dorcas read a book aloud to Marlene while Adeline watched out the window.
Soon enough the train was close to Hogwarts and the prefects started going door to door reminding the students to put on their uniform.
"Well if it isn't my favorite compartment" Remus said with a smirk, his prefects badge displayed proudly.
"Ugh, can't we request Lily to be our reminder?" Marlene teasingly asked Remus, while getting up to hug him hello.
"She's much prettier to look at" Adeline added more seriously than Marlene was.
"Ah Wilson. I guess it isn't my favorite compartment after all. I'd love to stay and chat, but I have some very important duties to perform. You know how it is being a prefect. Oh wait, no you don't" Remus replied. He then leaves them before Adeline got the chance to say anything back.
"Bitch. That wasn't even a good insult." Adeline thought for a moment. "Honestly, I think its lack of goodness makes it hurt worse. Like he wasn't even trying anymore."
"Well we're getting older Addy. Maybe he's maturing?" Dorcas calmly told Adeline, used to her rants on Remus.
"No because that implies that I am not mature. And I consider myself to be very mature."
"Whatever you say Miss Wilson"
Adeline became friends with Dorcas in the first year. Adeline was a Hufflepuff, yet she didn't fit in with people from her house. She didn't trust anyone, and didn't let many people in. The third week of school she was mustering up the courage to ask her roommates if they wanted to hang out when she over heard them talking about her.
"Who does she think she is?" "She is so stuck up" "She acts like she's better than us"
Adeline left the common room in tears when she ran into Dorcas. With Dorcas, the trust came easy. Dorcas was so open, and Adeline felt that she could be too. The pair were fast friends. Being in separate houses caused it to be difficult at times, but the pair always made it work. However, while Adeline was isolated from her house, Dorcas was friends with many Gryffindors. She always made sure to balance her house friends and her best friend, but it was difficult to accomplish when Adeline hated the Marauders so much.
"Just hang out with us this once"
"No Dorcas, it's fine. I'll be fine. I don't want to be around them, but I'm not gonna stop you. We can do our weekly dinner tomorrow"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah no biggie I have some revisions I should be doing anyways. OWLs are coming up."
"Yay! Well not yay for the OWLs that sucks, but Marlene is supposed to be there too and I really really hope she asks me out."
When Marlene and Dorcas started dating their duo soon became a trio. Marlene fell right into the rhythm of the two girls and Adeline found herself with her second friend.
