After a month staying at the Manor, Adeline made the decision to return to her apartment. It was difficult, and emotional, but she felt closer to Marlene and Dorcas there.

Plus the third wheeling with Lily and James was beginning to be too much.

She had offered the now spare room to Sirius and Peter, but Sirius preferred his own apartment, and Peter was staying with him mum to take care of her. So instead, Adeline left the room the way Marlene and Dorcas had it and locked the door.

She didn't feel right moving everything, but also hated seeing it. Eventually she knew she'd have to go through things and either put it in a vault or get rid of it, but it was still too soon for that.

Adeline managed to pick up her life where she left it, with only a few minor changes.

She still brewed potions, she still visited James and Lily, she still cooked and baked. But now she also invites Sirius over more frequently, she got a job as a waitress during the day, and she's gone back to inventing products for Sleakeazy's.

All seemingly meaningless work, but it kept her going. And if she just kept going then the pain would start to lessen.

As March came to a close, Adeline was anticipating Remus's quarterly visit, as always. It had gotten to a point where, while she missed him, she was used to him being gone. She'd still cry when he left, and get worried if he was later than expected, but she could sleep at night and she could enjoy herself without him.

When Adeline and Sirius were hanging out one night (she had decided to let him give her another tattoo, this time a small lamb to match her patronus) there was a knock on the door.

"That's probably Remus!" Adeline said excitedly as she raced to the front door. She had stopped leaving it unlocked all the time.

Adeline swung the door open and was surprised to see Dumbledore standing next to Remus.

"Hello love." Remus said as he picked her up and spun her around. "I missed you."

Adeline pressed her lips onto his, "I missed you too."

"Moony!" Sirius called out as he walked over to give Remus a quick hug.

"Padfoot! What are you doing here?" Remus asked while looking between Adeline and Sirius.

Adeline turned to show him the back of her arm, "Giving me a new tattoo of course."

Remus smiled at the sheep on her arm, remembering when he first taught her how to conjure a Patronus. "By the time the war is over you're gonna have a whole sleeve."

"One hundred percent." Adeline said with a laugh. "I'll join a biker gang."

"You can't join a biker gang without me!" Sirius whined.

"Sirius it'll probably be your biker gang that I join." Adeline retorted.

"Fuck yeah, I get a biker gang!"

Adeline laughed at his excitement and the sound was music to Remus' ears. He had to leave again after their post-funeral event, so the last time he saw Adeline she was still in deep mourning.

Watching her be able to laugh and smile reassured him that his girl was going to be okay.

"Albus," Adeline greeted finally acknowledging their old Headmaster, "Nice to see you."
