Remus had a plan. It was a simple one. Not too outrageous. And not one that can be traced back to him. He got Amos Diggory to sneak him into the Hufflepuff common room in exchange for some muggle weed. Don't ask Remus how he got it. From there he just had to make it to Adeline's room and luckily none of her roommates were in. He then proceeded to charm her shoes. He charmed them to have an extension charm, that way she wouldn't be able to wear any of the pairs she had. He then put a temporary disappearing charm on her roommates extra shoes so she couldn't borrow theirs. Little did he know that they wouldn't have lent them to her anyway. Remus snuck out undetected, pleased with the harmless but annoying prank.
He just needed to find a way to mess up the shoes she was currently wearing. Remus went down to dinner and an idea struck. He sat down with Peter and had him spill water on Adeline's shoes when she walked by.
"Shit I am so sorry," Peter apologized.
"It's fine, accidents happen," Adeline always felt bad for Peter. He was the forgotten boy of their group; another reason she thought the Marauders were terrible. They claimed to be tight knit yet didn't always include their fourth member.
Meanwhile, Remus charmed Adeline's shoes to
make her socks wet whenever she wore them. That way she'd have to take them off, or suffer through wet socks.
"I'm gonna go change my shoes, Dorcas" Adeline said once they walked away from Remus and Peter.
"Okay, I'll say you a seat," Dorcas replied.
Adeline went to her room and slipped off her wet shoes. She put on a different pair and was shocked when her whole leg went into the shoe. What the fuck Adeline thought. She grabbed a different pair and it did the same thing. Fucking Remus. Just then her roommates walked into the room. They exchanged polite smiles and nods but their moods suddenly went sour.
"Where are my shoes??" the girl named Taylor asked.
"Mine are missing too" added Marissa.
"Merlin, I can't find mine either." Deja exclaimed.
"Why do you still have your shoes?" Marissa asked.
"Mine are pretty useless" Adeline defended as she put her whole arm in a pair.
"Well whoever pranked your shoes must've stolen ours." Deja scolded.
"You better get our bloody shoes back tonight, we're going to a party and I need to wear heels." Taylor demanded.
"It was Lupin. Had to have been, so go ask
him for them back yourselves." Adeline said angrily as she grabbed a new dry pair of socks since she discovered as they were talking that her wet shoes were making her socks wet as well.
"You are so useless Adeline. You're supposed to be loyal, and loyal people would get their roommates shoes back." Deja yelled.
"Fine. I'll go ask him, but if I come back with pink hair it's on you." Adeline conceded.
"Like hell it's on us. You must've done something to cause him to prank you, not us. This is your fault. Everything is your bloody fault." Taylor screamed.
Adeline felt tears prick her eyes. "I'll get your bloody shoes back. Then I'll go back to staying out of your way, okay?"
"We want you to spend less time in the room." Deja added.
"What?" Adeline asked.
"You commandeered our room. We want it back. To repay us for the emotional damages of not having our shoes." Deja explained.
"Okay, whatever. Come in whenever you want and I'll leave."
"Good, now go get our shoes we need to start getting ready." Marissa concluded.
Adeline left her room on the verge of tears. Her and her roommates weren't friends, but they never said anything to her face. They weren't enemies, they just coexisted. Until now. When she got back to the dining hall she watched Remus look straight to her socks and start laughing. She walked over to him still about to cry.
"Lupin," she said surprisingly calm. "Will
you please return my roommates' shoes to them?"
Remus was shocked to hear her ask
so nicely. "Oh, uh sure. I mean. No. I didn't take their shoes. I don't know what you're talking about. What even are shoes?" He mustered out still flustered that Adeline acted so causally.
"They're pissed Lupin. They didn't do anything to you. So just give them back the shoes, okay?" Adeline said defeated.
Remus looked up at her and saw the tears she was trying to hold back. He nodded and she walked away to Dorcas. He watched as Dorcas gave her a hug and got up to walk with her out of the room. What happened? Remus wondered. She has never been upset with a prank before, and he's pranked her much worse than this. This was an easy one, he only made the charm last 24hours and if she really tried she could probably undo it before the 24 hours were over. He felt a little bad. But more so he felt scared. Because an angry Adeline could retaliate with wicked pranks, and he had no idea what a sad Adeline was capable of.
