Monty's Christmas Day sickness did not get better. He was diagnosed with Dragon Pox and shortly after Effie was as well.

There's thankfully a cure for Dragon Pox and they were able to overcome the illness itself , but it had left them weak, and that coupled with their old age, resulted in their doctors telling them to get their affairs in order and be prepared to say their goodbyes.

James found comfort in Lily in these trying times. He always knew his parents were older than his friends'. But he was never quite prepared to say goodbye this early.

"James I think we should move the wedding up." Lily said softly one day at dinner.

"You've been planning this for months, my flower, I don't want to wreck your dream wedding." James responded.

"James, I wish that my parents could be there. That my dad could walk me down the aisle and that my mom could take me dress shopping. If I can't have them, then I at least want your parents." Lily looked deep into James' eyes as she spoke. Not wanting to strike a nerve but wanting him to know she meant it.

"Are you sure?" James asked. His mom had always dreamed of watching him get married and he did want to provide that for her.

"Yes. Let's just have it here. Only close friends and family. We can do it tomorrow."

"But what about your dress and the cake and-"

"We don't need it." Lily squeezed his hand. "I'll go start writing letters to our guests and friends."

"Only if you're positive."

"I'm positive."

Adeline had been nearly as much of a wreck as James had been. Without having Remus there to comfort her, she found herself spending more time with Sirius, of all people. Effie and Monty were parental figures for them both, and neither had other family to fall back on.

Sirius, Adeline, Marlene, and Dorcas had been hanging out at their apartment one night when Lily's owl flew through their window. They each read their letter and were all equally shocked at the news.

"How can she get married tomorrow? We haven't had a bachelorette party nor has she picked out a dress yet?" Dorcas asked in shock.

"And we didn't get to throw James one! Plus what about catering and decorations?" Sirius added.

"This is such a rash decision." Marlene exclaimed, "We can't let them do this."

Sirius groaned then shook his head, "We haven't any choice. I'd bet anything they're doing it for mum and dad."

Adeline took a deep breath, "You're right. They probably want them there."

"Well what should we do?" Marlene asked. "We can't let them have a boring courthouse wedding."

"Then we'll have to just throw it for them." Adeline declared, "Marlene and Dorcas, you two grab Mary then get Lily and take her to a bar. Sirius, you and Peter can do the same for James. Fuck I wish Remus was here. But I will get to work on a Wedding dress (I wouldn't be much fun at the bar anyway). I can knit one that won't be her dream dress, but it will be white and pretty. Tomorrow you guys will be on decoration duty while Peter and I work on the cake and food. Mary can help Lily with hair and makeup."

"What about the rings?" Sirius asked, "I don't think they ever got them."

"James wouldn't need as long to get ready tomorrow as Lily. We can send him off to get them." Marlene suggested.
