Knock Knock.

"I'll get it!" Adeline yelled to James, Sirius, and Lily who were sat in the kitchen catching up with Mary and Peter who had just arrived a few minutes prior.

Marlene and Dorcas must be early. Adeline thought to herself as she went to the front door. When she opened it, she was surprised to see Dumbledore. "What are you doing here?"

"Hello to you too Miss Wilson, are the rest of your friends here as well?" Dumbledore asked but without the typical twinkle in his eye.

Adeline made a note that he seemed nervous. Sympathetic almost. It couldn't be good news. She felt sudden worry for Remus. It's only been a day! It's too quick for something to happen. Please let him be okay. Adeline slowly nodded to Dumbledore and stepped aside to let him in.

"GUYS GET IN HERE." Adeline called out towards the kitchen. "NOW."

"We're coming, we're coming. Geesh Zippy." James said as he came into view, "Dumbledore? What are you doing here?"

The group looked at each other with fear in their eyes.

Dumbledore removed his cap and put his head down as he began to speak.

Adeline could see his mouth moving. Yet her ears were ringing. Soon the world around her became blurry, she felt like she was spinning, and that the world was closing in around her.

She immediately bent down to the flower pot that sat next to the door and vomited into it.

James held Lily as she sobbed into his arm, tears trickling down his face as well.

Sirius walked over to the cabinet and grabbed a bottle of fire whiskey.

Peter pulled Mary into a hug and rubbed her back to comfort her.

Adeline continued to throw up and choke on her own tears.

Dumbledore just watched, feeling terrible for the young kids that stood before him. And hating that he was the one to deliver the news.

Marlene Mckinnon, Dorcas Meadowes, and the rest of the Mckinnons, even her five year old brother, were dead. Marlene having been killed by Voldemort himself, and the rest by Death Eaters. They found their bodies that morning.

Adeline removed herself from the flower pot and as she laid on her back, she let the darkness that had been threatening her gaze consume her.

When Adeline woke she was lying on the couch with a blanket over her. She scanned the room and when her eyes landed on Dumbledore she knew it hadn't been a dream.

Her two best friends were dead.

They weren't going to arrive at the Potter Manor that evening.

They weren't going to be waiting for her back at the apartment.

They were gone.

Adeline turned from the couch and puked into a garbage can that was strategically sat next to her.

Dumbledore had approached her to comfort her, but Adeline snapped, "Don't touch me."

"Of course, I apologize Miss Wilson." Dumbledore said as he took a seat on a chair nearby. "Your friends stepped outside for some fresh air. I volunteered to keep an eye on you."
