"All rise."
The last week of school was a blur. They finished their sixth year exams (which were pointless anyways compared to their OWLS and NEWTS that sandwiched them). They packed up their things and said their goodbyes to one other. Euphemia and Fleamont were there to pick up Adeline, James, and Sirius; it was the first time Adeline had ever had someone standing at the station waiting. Adeline spent the evening perfecting her presentation. Soon enough, it was the next day and she was getting dressed and rushing out the door. Since she was still underage, Fleamont came with her to supervise.
Little did Adeline know, Euphemia, James, Sirius, Peter, and Remus all were in attendance as well. Little did Euphemia and Fleamont know, but Remus had the most at stake in the court. To them it was just exciting that Adeline invented a potion. But to Adeline and the Marauders it was personal.
"State your name for the court." The Minister of Magic, a man named Harold Minchum, stared down at Adeline.
"Adeline Presley Wilson." Adeline said clearly, her palms were sweating, but she would not let her voice waver. Adeline could hear the clicks of a typewriter as she spoke. She stood before a panel of five wizards. Four men and one women. All white. All attempting to intimidate her.
Presley? James mouthed to Remus who shrugged in return. They sat in the section behind Adeline. She hadn't even noticed them. She was too focused on her task at hand. There were a few reporters and other bystanders watching the court proceedings as well.
"Can you state for the record why you are here."
"I am here to seek approval for a potion."
"Specify the potion please."
"It is not currently named, but it's purpose is to allow werewolves to remain in control on Full Moons."
"Let the record show that Miss Wilson's potion was shown to work as intended under the Ministry's private testing." click click click, "Miss Wilson can you describe how you invented such a potion."
"Yes sir." Adeline took a deep breath and she glanced at Fleamont who gave her an encouraging nod, "I found a page of a textbook describing the theoretical 'Anti-Transformation Potion for those with Lycanthropy.' From there I studied their proposal and realized that with our current knowledge of magic it is not yet possible to prevent the transformations of a werewolf. However, it would be possible to prevent the loss of control that they experience after transforming. Therefore, allowing them to stay conscious throughout the night which prevents injury to themselves and to others who are unfortunate enough to come across a turned werewolf. I came up with multiple theoretical recipes but through my analysis of them I finally came to one that I predicted would work. As you said it did in fact work as I believed."
"Yes, that's all very impressive Miss Wilson, but we are having trouble believing you truly created this potion."
"Pardon?"
"Our best Potioneers have been working on such a potion for years and came up with nothing. It's doubtful that a sixteen year old girl could make it in a month."
Adeline felt the anger bubbling in her. Dumbledore warned her that she might experienced some prejudice on the stand, but she expected it would at least be passive aggressive and not blunt, "Then your best Potioneers haven't been working hard enough, sir. The Potion was not that difficult to invent. Now I had the privilege of looking over the other theoretical potions prior to arriving today. While they were nothing I based my own recipe on, I do find it important to view the work of others to see if my own could be improved upon. However, after viewing the proposals from the esteemed Potioneers you mentioned I noticed they were all missing one simple, obvious ingredient."
