Lily insisted on going back into the field after she gave birth. So when Harry was only a month old, Adeline had to babysit for the first time.

"Thank you so much for doing this Zippy." James said handing Harry off to her.

"Yeah of course." Adeline responded, her face immediately lighting up when looking at Harry.

"We should be back tomorrow since school will be starting." Lily reassured her, giving a kiss to her son.

"Sounds good, go kick some ass."

"Oh we will." James said with a wink, "Maybe we'll get to fuck up Barty. Moody already handled Evan."

"Ugh I hate those guys. They were so weird." Adeline agreed. "I'd rather you not kill anyone though."

"Neither would I." Lily added with a laugh. She checked her watch, "We should getting going James."

"Alrighty," James said then leaned down to give Harry a kiss on the forehead, "Goodbye Harry." James then gave Adeline a kiss on her forehead, "Goodbye Zippy."

Adeline laughed, "Goodbye Blitzy." She gave Lily a one arm hug while still holding Harry, "Bye Lils, stay safe."

"Always." Lily said with a wink as her and James left the house to apparate. They had added defenses against apparating in the house after Harry was born.

With Harry in her arms, Adeline went to take a seat on the couch.

He'd only been alive a month, but she already found herself caring so strongly for her godson. James had asked her multiple times if she and Remus were going to have kids (he dreamed of their kids falling in love when they're older) but she didn't feel the need to have her own. She had Harry. He was enough.

"Hello Rudolph," she whispered with a smile. "You're officially a month old today. And I'm officially 20."

"I never liked my birthday. You'll find that out as you grow up. I never want to celebrate. Yet this is the first year that not a single person will be here to tell me happy birthday and it feels weird. My parents used to make a big deal about it and I hated it. Then your grandparents took me in, Harry, and I started to enjoy my birthday again. They didn't shower me with gifts and fake love in an attempt to act like they don't hate me. Instead they gave me a single, thoughtful gift and a hug. And, Merlin, Harry I loved it. Then they-... then they passed away. And your Aunt Dorcas took over for them. Same thing, just a singular, thoughtful gift. But now your Aunt Dorcas is gone too. And I just feel so fuc- so alone."

"But you're gonna be so loved Rudolph, you already are. Merlin I wish I got to grow up with your parents. Or your grandparents. Who knew I'd be so jealous of a baby? But I swear Harry, I will always be here for you. You're too young for an unbreakable curse, and I don't think it would be ethical. However, you're the perfect age for a pinky promise."

Adeline took Harry small hand in her own and locked their pinkies together. "I promise to always love you Harry. And to always do everything in my power to keep you safe."

Adeline slowly retracted her hand, "I couldn't dream of a better birthday, Harry. You are the best gift I could get."

Harry reached out and grabbed Adeline's potion ring and smiled at her.

"I know you're probably smiling because you passed gas but I am going to pretend that you're secretly able to understand everything I said. I love you little fawn."

***********

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARRY!!!" Sirius yelled as he entered the room holding a long present.
