The sun was really getting low as we headed back for the highway. We walked up the hill and I had my arms crossed over my body. As soon as Carol saw me and I shook my head walking up to her, she engulfed me in a hug.

"You didn't find them?" Carol cried.

"Their trail went cold." Rick said to her as we separated. "We'll pick it up again first light."

"Whoa, wait a minute. I thought you said we were just coming back to regroup and make a plan?" I scoffed.

"You can't leave our daughter's out there to spend the night all alone in the woods." Carol said quickly.

"Out in the dark's no good." Daryl said softly as he placed a hand on my shoulder. I shrugged him off angrily. "We'd just be tripping over ourselves. More people get lost."

"But they're 12. She can't be out there on her own." Carol complained. "You didn't find anything?"

"She not alone. She has Charlotte, who's got protection. I swear, I will find them. I'm goin' back out there." I stated as I walked forward.

"Y/n, we have to make this an organized effort. Daryl knows the woods better than anybody, I've asked him to over see this. You know this." Rick said but I didn't stop.

"Dad, I'm taking this. Is it full?" I ask seeing his canteen on the hood of the RV.

"Well, yes. I just filled it. But babydoll, I don't think you going out is the best idea. Not in this condition." Dad tried to say but I ignored him.

Nothing was stopping me from going out and looking for my kid.

    CHARLOTTE'S POV:

The sun was low in the sky. There definitely was no turning back now. The creek was no longer in sight and we were completely lost. I had to run to catch up with Sophia. She just kept running and running at every little sound she heard. I was getting annoyed and rather tired. So I used the strength I had left to pump my legs faster. I ran and tackled into her make us both tumble onto the ground.

"Ouch! Charlie, why did you do that?" Sophia panted as she looked at me angrily.

"Because, Soph." I scoffed. "You kept running off and now we're lost. Like really lost! We should have stayed close to the creek! Now I have no idea how to find the highway again." I told her roughly and she looked down.

"I-I'm sorry. I'm just really scared. It's getting dark and I just want my Mom." She said as she began to cry.

I sighed and stood up, brushing myself off before walking over to her. I bent down on my knees and wrapped an arm around her shoulder.

"Shh, don't cry. I'm sorry... I'm still learning how to control my anger. I didn't mean to make you upset. I really miss my Mom too... But we can't stay out here, Soph. We have to keep going. We have to find somewhere to sleep that's safe... Well, safe enough." I explained to her softly, rubbing her hair like my Mom does for me.

She took a moment but then she sniffled and nodded. I helped her stand and we kept walking through the woods. Just before the sun was completely gone I could see a building in the distance. It was white with a red roof and it certainly looked abandoned. Sophia saw it too and we began running towards it. As we reached the outskirts, I placed my hand in front of her and pulled out my dagger just like the adults had done a million times before ever going into a unknown building. I motioned for her to keep quiet and I slowly pushed open the door.
