The two men walked inside the bar with us, putting their hands up showing they meant no harm seeing Rick's hand on his gun and Glenn lifting his up. Slowly their stances softened, but not completely, while the two men took that as a sign to keep coming in. Hershel, being the polite man he was offered them his scotch. Which they gladly agreed too. Their presence was extra sobering on top of the bottles of water I was trying to chug down and not throw up since I had drank so much. I kept Charlotte close to my side. Something was giving me an off vibe about these guys."I'm Dave." The skinner and cuter of the two mentioned as he took a seat and gladly accepted the drink from Rick who was pouring. He was tall, wore a sleeveless shirt, had brown hair and light stubble on his face. He gestured towards his heavier set friend. "The scrawny looking douchebag there is Tony."
"Eat me, Dave." Tony chuckled.
"Hey, maybe someday I will." Dave joked much to easily. "We met on I-95 coming out of Philly. Damn shit show that was." Dave seemed to look around at us waiting for introductions. His eyes lingered a bit to long on me which made me uncomfortable. But I didn't let it show.
"I'm Glenn." He spoke up first with a smile on his face. "It's nice to meet some new people."
"Rick Grimes." Rick introduced himself next.
"Y/n... Y/n Dixon, this is my daughter Charlie." I said cautiously.
I felt Charlotte squeeze my hand, likely in confusion, but I squeezed her hand back and she kept quiet and didn't look up at me. I pushed a water bottle towards Hershel and he gladly accepted it.
"Nice to meet you ladies." Dave smirked as he nodded our way. Rick didn't even bother offering me or Hershel a drink and that was just fine by me. Dave sure noticed though, specially as he looked over at Hershel who had remained fairly quiet. "How about you, pal? Have one?" He gestured to the alcohol.
"I just quit." Hershel told him plainly.
"You've got a unique sense of timing, my friend."
"His names Hershel. He lost people today, a lot of them." Rick explained and Dave looked over at him sympathetically.
"I'm truly sorry to hear that." Dave said. "To better days and new friends. And to our dead... May they be in a better place." He raised his glass as a toast. Glenn,Rick and his pal Tony followed suit.
As Dave leaned over the table, I spotted a gun on his belt and that made me hold Charlotte a little closer. Rick seemed to have noticed it too and Dave took notice of that. He pulled it out and smiled at the gun.
"Not bad, huh?" He showed it to Rick. "I got it off a cop."
"I'm a cop." Rick stated.
"This one was already dead." Dave chuckled.
"You fella's are a long way from Philadelphia." I pointed out trying to change the course of the conversation.
"It feels like we're a long way's from anywhere." Dave smiled up at me.
"Well, what drove you south?" Rick asked curiously.
"Well, I can tell ya it wasn't the weather." He snickered. "I must have dropped 30 pounds in sweat alone down here."
"I wish." Tony remarked slapping his big belly.
"No, first it was D.C. I heard there might be some kind of refugee camp, but the roads were so jammed, we never even got close. We decided to get off the highways, into the sticks, keep hauling ass. Every group we came across had a new rumor about a way outta this thing." Dave explained.
