Not so Different

Twins. They're often less alike than not. And Lucifer and Michael were as different as twins could be. God had been thrilled when he learned that his wife was expecting twin boys. One heir was splendid. But two? Jackpot. He had big plans for his sons. That excitement only lasted until Lucifer's rebellious personality came to light. Of course, any father would've been upset at their child for not listening to them. But God? He didn't have the patience for strict and lengthy discipline. He was King and Ruler of Heaven first and father second.

However, the boys also surprisingly shared quite a bit of common ground. Lucifer and Michael had similar hobbies, tastes in food, and even fighting styles. And to everyone's surprise, Lucifer rose through the angelic ranks faster than his twin despite his unruly attitude. Then again, maybe he just liked fighting and was better at swordsmanship. Michael had struggled some but achieved the same goal in the end. Both had trained together daily for years. The two shared many important moments, like seeing the living world for the first time and speaking with the denizens of many countries. Many of their opinions of this other world aligned, and they had long talks about what would benefit humanity. They had brought their proposals before their father. Lucifer's had been blunter and cutthroat. While interesting, it wasn't the best option.

Perhaps the troubles truly began after that day. Lucifer had always felt that he could talk to Michael about anything. They were brothers, after. Twins, in fact. But when favoritism took hold, it was clear who would rise above the other. They still had many things in common. But the tide was rolling in high and crashing down on Lucifer's state of mind.

And now? Michael was sitting on his balcony in silence. He didn't know what to think anymore. Of course, he missed the days when they spent time together. If only he hadn't been so blind and deaf to his suffering. He shook his head in disappointment. Some brother he had turned out to be. No wonder Lucifer hated him so deeply. Michael deserved it. Despite the chasm between them, they were brothers first and foremost. Nothing would change that. And as a brother, it was his job to make things right. Michael didn't expect forgiveness. Lucifer would laugh and see it as a weakness anyway. But being seen as a fool was better than being hated. He didn't mind now that he knew the truth. Michael chuckled. God had always warned about following Lucifer's path. And look at what he was doing now. They were blood, no doubt.

Michael sat and wrote a brief letter for his brother before he prepared for another visit next month. Time was running out. God was going to catch on sooner or later. He had to act fast. And he had to act now.
