Heaven's Little Secret

Heaven was lovely. But it had shadows like any other place. God had been working on a little something behind closed doors. Not even his closet aides knew about this. He had a prediction that this new project would prove useful one day. God already had his pieces on the grandmaster Chessboard in play. He liked being prepared. But for now, there was nothing to worry about. Running Heaven was his overall priority. His personal games could wait until the time was right. After all, the ruler of Heaven had to have the virtue of patience.

God entertained himself as he watched his countless creations at work down below on the surface. Something made him curious as he observed the living world. It was time for another experiment. Not to mention, the information gathered would be valuable for moving forward with his plans when the time came. With a wave of his hand, God set things into motion once again. He grinned as it began to take effect and scrutinized his subjects closely. One of his aides soon rushed to his side in a panic. Their diving boss quickly assured them there was nothing to be concerned about and dismissed the alarm. Despite being doubtful, God's word was absolute, and the aide returned to their duties. With an amused chuckle, he resumed people-watching. This was going to be fun.

As time marched on, a few of the lesser angels went missing. Since they were of lower rank, nobody thought beyond a mere disappearance. Of course, God was pulling the strings as more of his less significant subordinates vanished without a feather to trace. He knew what was going on. And he made sure everyone else was kept in the dark. Sure it was a tragic loss (kinda), but to God, these angels were expendable. He wasn't above using his subjects as he pleased. As Heaven's population realized that only lower-ranked angles were missing, tensions among the superiors eased. At least for now. God also had some of them on his list.
