The day had come. Michael stood at the castle gates. With a heavy heart, he let himself in and went to his father's office. He had asked him to set aside one hour to talk. Of course, God had agreed. It was rare for his son to want to talk to him, let alone see him. After a few minutes, Michael opened the doors and sat down. His father welcomed him and ordered some tea. It was nice. But Michael wasn't here to exchange pleasantries. No, he was here on business. As they drank their tea, he debated how to tell his father. Sure, he had been preparing for this day for months. But the real deal was always nerve-wracking.

After some time, Michael spoke up. He intended to leave Heaven and live among the living. Or down in Hell. But probably the living. God choked on his tea. Michael didn't give his father time to process his words. He had secretly been packing his things little by little for weeks now. By the end of the month, he would be gone. Of course, he would still visit, maybe. But he was done living under his father's domain. Michael was done. It was time to live his life. With that, he finished his tea and left to make the final preparations for leaving Heaven's golden gates. There was a mild sadness in his heart. This was his home. But he could no lone look at it the same. As Michael retired to his room, remembering how Lucifer had been treated took some weight off his shoulders. Michael had made his choice long back. It was time to honor it.
