"You can taste the cake batter but you can't see it after it's baked and done," I argued with my husband.
Andy's birthday was tomorrow and I was making his cake so I could decorate it later tonight after it had cooled off.
"Mmmm chocolate," Andy commented.
"Yes just what you wanted," I told him as I poured the batter into a cake pan.
Andy grabbed the bowl and took one last taste before putting the bowl in the sink.
"I can't wait till tomorrow," Andy commented as he washed the bowl for me.
I was currently banging out my cake pans so they did not have any air bubbles.
"I hope it comes out as good as it tasted raw," I joked.
"It will," Andy replied contently.
I grabbed a timer and set it for 45 minutes and put the cakes in the oven. While that was going, I would go ahead and get the frosting going.
"What are you working on now?" Andy asked.
He was following me around like a lost little puppy.
"The frosting. Cherry chocolate," I told him as I got the jar of maraschino cherries opened so I could chop them up.
"Mmmm," Andy commented as he stole a cherry to eat.
"Are you hungry love?" I asked him chuckling.
"No not really I just really like cherries and chocolate," Andy replied with a smile.
"I know duh," I replied as I chopped the cherries into tiny chunks.
Andy disappeared from the kitchen temporarily.
I began making the frosting. Soon, I heard music coming from the stereo in the kitchen.
I could faintly hear the Mills Brothers.
I smiled as I continued to work on the frosting.
Andy popped the kitchen door open so we could hear the music in the kitchen.
"But nevertheless, I'm in love with you," Andy sang under his breath as he entered the kitchen.
"Sing a little louder love," I encouraged.
Andy smiled at my comment.
"Oh maybe I'll live a life of regret," Andy sang a little louder than the last line.
I was smiling like an idiot. I loved his voice so damn much and him singing the Mills Brothers was a treat to me.
And so, as I made the frosting, Andy sang the entire time which made my little heart so dang happy.
As I finished the frosting, I grabbed a spoon and dipped it so he could taste the frosting before I refrigerated it.
His eye's lit up.
"Here," I said handing him the spoon.
Andy took it and tasted it.
"Oh god darling that is so good," Andy remarked after tasting it.
"I'm glad you like it," I told him as I put the lid on the bowl and shoved it in the fridge.
"You gotta hide it from me till you are done doing my cake," Andy commented as the kitchen timer went off.
I turned my attention to the oven where my cakes were baking.
"I will just wait till tonight," I told him.
I then opened the oven and grabbed a toothpick to check the centers of my cakes.
"Are they done?" Andy asked from behind me.
"They need like 10 minutes. It's like done but also raw a bit still," I told him as I pushed the rack back in the oven.
I reset my timer for 10 minutes.
"Andrew," I told Andy who had now wrapped his arms around me from behind.
"What? A squeeze and a little kiss never hurt no one," Andy defended.
I chuckled at his PDA.
"Andrew," I remarked.
"I just love you that's all," Andy told me as he let go of the embrace.
"I know and I love you too," I replied.
"So what else did you have to do today?" Andy asked me.
"Well I need to wrap your birthday gift and sign the cards," I told him.
In addition to the trip to Florida, I also got some goodies and such for him to open.
"Ooooh," Andy commented as he wiggled his eyebrows.
"Yes but you can't peak at all," I told him as I went to do the dishes before my cakes were done.
"I promise darling I won't. I like surprises too," Andy replied to me.
"Good," I remarked as I found a dish towel to dry my bowls.
"I can't wait for my gifts," Andy's voice allured.
"You are going to be so happy," I told him as I went to take my cakes out of the oven to let them cool.
As I was bent over to the oven, I felt a light tap on my bottom.
"Sorry darling couldn't resist myself," Andy teased.
"What if I had dropped the cakes?" I complained.
"I would have had you for my birthday dessert instead," Andy teased once more.
"Loverboy shush," I teased back as I put my cakes on the cooling rack.
"I know you like it darling," Andy joked.
I shook my head.
"Would you please contain yourself for 2 seconds?" I asked him.
"I promise I will," Andy told me as he followed me out of the kitchen.
"So I got to let the cakes cool for at least an hour," I told him as I opened the front door to go check the mailbox.
The walk down to the end of our driveway wasn't too terrible. It was all downhill.
Andy followed behind.
"You are the best," Andy told me.
"Aw,' I commented to him.
Andy managed to catch up to where I was and grabbed my hand as we walked to the mailbox.
"The only thing is I keep getting older," Andy told me.
"And? The older you get the wise you'll be,' I remarked.
"But I don't wanna be old and grey," Andy told me as we reached the bottom of the driveway.
"You'll still be my Andy no matter what color your hair is," I told him.
Andy chuckled.
"You always know how to make me feel good," Andy remarked.
"Yes sir. It's my job," I told him as I grabbed the mail out of the mailbox.
"Anything good?" Andy gestured to the mailbox.
"Cards from your family for your birthday," I told him as I handed him all the mail.
"Even Karen sent one how sweet," Andy replied as he looked through the envelopes as we walked back to the house.
"I always freak out how close your two birthdays are together," I told him.
"Right. Karen's is the 2nd of March and mine the 5th," Andy remarked as he reached for my hand as we walked.
"Double dreamers 'cause you are Pisces," I told him.
"Exactly darling," Andy replied with a smile.
Here to Andy's birthday. Only the stars knew what was in store.
