"So there is a total of how many?" I asked my husband.
We were confirming the details for our first combined Thanksgiving with our families.
"You only have 3 people coming?" Andy asked.
"I told you only my mom and dad and sister would be coming. I have a very small family love," I replied.
Andy seemed shocked for some reason.
"So basically it is only the 4 of you and like 16 of my family with my brother's children?" Andy asked chuckling.
"Yes and?" I asked him.
"No, then I think your parents and sister should stay here and my mum and dad too. I don't want that many people here overwhelming us," Andy told me.
"Are you sure? I mean we could have some more of your family here," I asked.
"Darling just because we got a bigger house does not mean we have to pack it full of people," Andy joked.
"I see," I replied chuckling as I wrote down the number of people and another note about who was going to stay with us.
"So we are going to need to get a bigger turkey then normal. Like thirty pounds?" Andy asked.
"T-thirty pounds? Do those even exist?" I asked.
"That or we can get two fifteen-pounders," Andy analyzed.
"Ok got it," I wrote on my paper.
"And we are going to need extra boxes of stuffing. You make the best stuffing darling," Andy replied.
"I do?" I asked chuckling.
"Yes, you do. Now we also need to decide if we are going to have salad or just go for two extra vegetables like green beans and Brussels sprouts?" Andy remarked.
"I don't know about making a big salad for like 18 people so I think we will stick to the vegetable idea," I told him.
"Next is dessert," Andy commented with a smirk.
I rolled my eyes.
"In all seriousness, we need to get enough stuff to make at least 5 pies. Or buy 5 pies," I replied.
"I think we need more than that darling. Remember most of my family is men," Andy joked.
"So 10 pies?" I asked.
"No that's too much darling. Maybe like 7," Andy noted.
"I think if we make like 4 of those and then bought 3 like one apple, one pecan and one blueberry?" I suggested.
"That sounds good to me," Andy told me.
"Ok so now what else hmmm?" I glanced at my list.
"Well the only thing left is to make sure we have enough dishes for the entire family," Andy told me.
"Shoot I don't think I have 18 plates," I remarked.
"A trip to Sears and Kmart is booked for us tomorrow then," Andy joked.
I sighed in relief.
"Thank goodness because I wouldn't want to have mismatched dishes or stuff," I told him as I stood up from the spot on the couch to stretch.
"It wouldn't be so terrible darling but I know you like being a perfectionist," Andy remarked as he followed my movements.
"You get me so well," I told him as I went and headed to the kitchen for a drink.
"I know you like the back of my hand darling," Andy said as he followed me.
"Very true," I told him as I reached into the cabinet for two glasses.
I wanted a soda. But, I had to see what Andy wanted.
"What would you like love?" I asked him as I grabbed some ice cubes.
"Pepsi would be good darling," Andy remarked.
"That's what I'm gonna have too," I replied smiling.
"Great minds think alike," Andy commented as he winked at me.
"Shush but yes true," I joked as I opened two cans of soda.
"I think we become more alike every day," Andy allured.
"Is that so?" I asked him as I handed him his glass.
"Yes and thank you lovey," Andy said as he gestured to the glass of soda.
"So when do we want to get all this shopping done? We still have enough time right?" I asked him.
"Thanksgiving is 10 days away so probably later this week?" Andy asked
"Sounds like a plan to me love," I said as I sipped my soda and headed back to the living room.
"I think retail shopping is your therapy," Andy told me as we settled on the couch.
"Oh you know it love. I mean a new set of dishes hurt no one," I told him with a nudge.
Andy chuckled.
"You always have the right words to say," Andy said as he reached for the TV guide.
"I do," I mumbled.
Andy smiled at me.
"So anything good on?" I asked Andy who was staring at the TV guide.
"Well there is the typical ABC afterschool specials on," Andy listed off.
"Any game shows?" I asked him.
"Match Game, Pyramid comes on too," Andy listed off.
"Hmm no TV shows on repeat?" I asked.
"Not till 4. One Day at a Time is on repeat," Andy told me.
"Well we could go sit outside for a while I mean I love the fall weather," I told him as I stood up and headed out to the kitchen backdoor.
"Wait up for me darling," Andy told me.
I chuckled as I slid the door open to walk out on the porch.
Biscuit was basking in the sun. It was the perfect sunshine.
"I forgot to ask darling when do you want to get chickens?" Andy asked me.
"Oh I forgot we talked about that," I commented as I went to sit on the porch swing.
Andy followed me.
"It's only because I don't know if you wanted them before the New Year. We'd have to go chicken shopping," Andy said confidently.
I laughed.
"That sounds so funny. "Chicken shopping" what a statement," I replied.
Andy chuckled.
"Yeah that did sound pretty funny," Andy said as he sat down next to me on the porch swing.
"You think we'll be old and grey swinging on this porch swing watching our grandchildren one day?" I randomly commented.
"I pray darling. I can just see us," Andy said as he put his glass on the table.
"They'll be playing under that tree for years," I pointed.
"And we'll be sitting here remembering this exact moment when we knew they'd be here," Andy whispered.
I just turned to look at him and he had the biggest smile on his face.
"You see the entire future huh?" I asked him.
"Ever since we met, that's all I ever saw darling," Andy said as he leaned to kiss my forehead.
"Awwww," I commented as I smiled.
Another day to be thankful for.
