"Aw Karen," I commented in shock.

She had bought me two plants for the front yard and had a story that went with them.

"This lily plant represents your growth and change in life. So I would keep this one in the window or in the living room to "water" your growth.  The bamboo wasn't something I thought could grow in California, but it symbolizes good fortune and longevity," Karen told me.

Karen had not seen me since before Florida and had yet had the chance to visit after the situation.

"These are really lovely KC. I appreciate you so much," I told her as I thanked her.

"Of course. I don't know exactly what it feels like to have a miscarriage but I do know there is hope and faith in whatever is to come next," Karen explained.

I smiled at her.

"That is probably the best thing I've heard through all this. That there is hope and faith," I told her.

"I don't like asking questions but did you know you were expecting?" Karen asked kindly.

"No I didn't which is why I think it feels just as bad if I had known. I thought I was dying after I came back from Florida," I told her.

Karen frowned.

"I can't imagine that but I am so glad you are on the mend," Karen told me.

"Thanks KC. It's been a weird time in my life but at least we are still here to tell the story," I told her.

Just about this time, Andy arrived back in from the yard. He had taken Chestnut on a walk around the stable.

"Hi darling. Hi Karen," Andy greeted.

"How did it go?" I asked Andy.

"Fine. Chestnut still does not like the idea of going on walks," Andy commented before heading up the stairs.

"How did he take it?" Karen asked in a whisper.

"He was and is still concerned about my mental being. He still doesn't let me do certain things though the doctors told me I'm fine to start normal things again," I told her quietly.

"He really does love you and that is so rare in this damn world anymore," Karen told me.

"I know and his love is like a blanket of security. He doesn't have to do much to show me he cares and wants the best for me," I told Karen.

Andy came back down the stairs so we shifted subjects.

"How many days are you working?" Karen asked.

"I'm working 3 days a week now. They are gradually moving me up in the company," I told her.

Andy sat down with us.

"That's great! I think you are finally shining in the job position you have the skills for though I do miss ya at the record store. Levi and Johnny are still themselves but ya know," Karen told me.

"We need to go the record store soon darling," Andy told me.

"True," I told them.

The phone rang as I was replying and I reached to grab it.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Hey (Y/N), its me Gail," Gail spoke over the phone.

"Gail? Holy crap are you serious? How are you?" I spoke.

Andy and Karen chuckled.

"It's been a while I know but I saw the headlines of you being the hospital and wanted to see how everything was going?" Gail asked.

I sighed.

"Yeah I'm ok just some woman issues if that makes sense," I told her.

I hadn't talked to Gail in months or weeks. The last time I remember hearing from her was Christmas.

"Are you doing better?" Gail asked.

Andy and Karen began conversing with each other. Karen was explaining to him about the plants she bought.

"I mean for the most part I'm doing ok. Just one day at a time," I told her.

"Well I hope everything gets better. I am going to be in Cali soon so I'll call again to plan us to meet up?" Gail asked.

"Yes that would be lovely Gail," I told her.

"Ok sounds good. Take care," Gail told me.

"You too," I told her.

"Bye," Gail said.

I put the phone on the ringer.

"Was that Gail?" Andy asked shocked.

"Yes she saw headlines about me being in the hospital. I haven't talked to her since Christmas," I told him.

"I remember her. She was always man crazy," Karen commented.

I laughed.

"She had push pin probably for every state in the country," I joked.

"Oh you are terrible darling," Andy remarked.

"Nah its the truth if you only knew what I knew about Gail but she did save me from Jessica," I told him.

"She always came off like this super bad bitch to me which is very admirable," Karen remarked.

"That's how she was or is. I don't know,"  I told them both.

"Well at least good friends are for keeps," Karen commented.

"That's true," I replied.

Good friends don't come and go. They may not always be there but they do care from afar.
