Chapter 133

"Oh god," I mumbled to myself.

Now that I was in the big girl part of the company, the demos, and other stuff John had me in charge of listening to them weren't always a walk in the park.

The demo tape I had chosen to start my day off was skin-crawling to say the least. The band was called "The Viper Rattlesnakes." I could see why they were having a hard time getting a recording contract.

They were screaming the lyrics instead of singing in my opinion. The lead vocalist sounded like they were singing in a key that wasn't meant for their voice.

John came in to see what I was listening to.

"Your face says it all," John remarked as he picked up the little paper that came with the demo tape.

"It's not right for the music industry right now. Perhaps a new wave of music will come and this will be perfect," I told John.

"The Viper Rattlesnakes? Who names themselves that?" John asked as he shook his head.

"Well, they did," I joked.

John laughed.

"Send them a dear John letter," John told me.

"Ok sounds good to me," I remarked as I took the tape out.

I made a little note on my paper of the haves and have not of the demo tapes for today.

"Hope the rest of them aren't that bad," John told me as he began his walk back out of my office.

"You and me both," I told him as he shut the door.

I grabbed another tape. This time, it was a solo artist. Her name was Eva Jacks. The paper she sent read she was a pop/country artist.

She had sent in a cover of "Jolene" by Dolly Parton.

I pressed play and immediately I felt 100% better than the last one. It was vibey for this day and age.

"I'm definitely gonna put this one aside so John can listen," I mumbled to myself.

And so, I finished up the 15 demo tapes I had to listen to before a lunch break.

I heard the elevator doors open and then a knock at my office door.

"Come in," I commented as I was clearing up my mess before I headed down to grab a coke from the vending machine.

"Hi darling," Andy said as he entered the room.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him as my eyes immediately zeroed in on the food in his hands.

"I thought it would be nice to surprise you for lunch," Andy told me as he gestured towards the In N Out bag of food he was carrying with the drink tray.

"What did I do to deserve someone like you?" I asked him as I kissed his cheek as he sat the food down on my desk.

"A little love goes a long way," Andy told me.

I smiled at Andy who was unloading the food on my desk.

"Plus I know this week has been extra tiring with all the demo tapes," Andy told me as I grabbed a chair for Andy to sit in.

"You know how to make me feel so loved even if it's just food," I told him chuckling.

"Yes of course darling," Andy told me.

"To think a week from today, we will be somewhere in Mykonos," I told him.

"Mmmhmm and getting our tan on. And relaxing poolside," Andy remarked as he handed me napkins.

"I cannot wait. The last thing I need to get for us is a lot of sunscreens," I told Andy who was getting ready to dig into his double-double hamburger.

"We definitely do not want to burn on this trip," Andy remarked as we both contently dug into our lunch.

I was absolutely starving and I felt like a bottomless pit for the first few minutes of our lunch date.

Andy looked at me with a smile.

"What?" I asked with my mouth full of food.

Andy swallowed his food before replying.

"Sometimes you just see how much love you have for a person in one glance. I always see that when I look at you," Andy told me.

"Aw love," I remarked at him.

"Seeing you just like this in your stomping grounds and being contently happy with your life and finally achieving your dreams is what I always wanted for you," Andy continued.

"That's really sweet of you to say love," I told him.

"Well enough of my philosophical concepts," Andy joked.

I chuckled.

"No I really love them, Andrew,"I told him.

Andy smiled at me.

"I was hoping you'd say that," Andy told me.

"Well duh I love your thinking," I told him as I had a knock at my office door.

John entered the room.

"I thought I heard your husband here," John chuckled.

"He brought me lunch," I gestured to the food.

"Nice to see you again John," Andy remarked as John shook his hand.

"Likewise Andy. Did you tell him about the Viper Rattlesnakes?" John asked stifling a chuckle.

"The who?" Andy asked laughing.

I started laughing.

"Oh this demo tape came into our office today and my god I thought I was going to lose my screws listening to it," I told Andy.

"Was it that bad?" Andy asked John and me.

John and I looked at each other.

"Yes," I remarked.

"Before he leaves, play it for him," John told me.

"I will," I told John as John made an exit of the room again.

"The Viper Rattlesnakes?" Andy asked me as John closed the door.

"Yes it was a demo tape that I can definitely see why no one has given them the light of day," I explained.

"I cannot wait to hear it," Andy remarked.

"I think you can actually it is pretty terrible," I replied as I went back to focusing on eating.

"By the look on your face, I think it is," Andy commented with a chuckle.

"What if I just look that way?" I joked.

Andy rolled his eyes.

"Shut up darling you know you are beautiful," Andy told me.

I shook my head.

"You think that but I don't," I told him.

Andy sighed.

"I'll show you just how beautiful you are tonight," Andy told me.

I focused back on my food as my lunch break was over soon.

To a typical day in the office.
