Randomly through his agents, one week before Thanksgiving, Andy got an invite to a party for some launch of upcoming musicians. What was nice was, it was also in part with my job so we both got to be there because of work.

The only downside I had was that I was more focused mentally on planning Thanksgiving. My family would be flying in 3 days and Andy's family in 4.

I was currently at a table with Andy and one of the smaller label executives from my job.

"She's only been with us a short amount of time but she's one of the best," John the executive commented.

I smiled.

"Thank you John I appreciate that," I commented.

"She does every job very well. We met after I got to know her at a local vinyl record store about 6  years ago," Andy replied.

"You've been together that long?" John asked.

"Well not exactly. We met 6 years ago but we were just friends first," Andy remarked.

"Yes we were just friends," I told John.

"Wait, did you work at that one shop out close to Malibu?" John asked me.

I was taken aback.

"Y-yes why?" I asked confused.

"Dennis, well, Big Boss, that's my brother," John told me.

My mouth flew open in shock.

"Y-your brother? Oh my gosh,"  I commented.

"That's such a small world," Andy remarked.

"Yeah no wonder you are good at what you do," John told me as someone called him over to another table.

"Haha well yeah," I replied as John disappeared.

"Wait your ex-bosses name was Dennis?" Andy asked laughing.

"Yes, well we called him Big Boss only because he hated his real name. In school, people would say Denise instead," I told Andy after I sipped some of my drink.

"And I'm barely finding this out now?" Andy asked chuckling.

"You never asked! And I never felt to volunteer that information," I mumbled.

"That's so funny darling though I mean what a name," Andy joked.

"Shush now I don't need John telling Big Boss much about me working for his brother," I said nudging him to silence him.

"You think anyone would really put two and two together?" Andy asked me as we watched John walk all over the room.

"It wouldn't take much for anyone to snap at the only girl who worked at the record store is now moving up in the world," I told Andy.

"Well as long as the magazines and paparazzi don't catch on you are fine darling," Andy reassured me.

"True I just don't man I mean my life in the so-called spotlight has been rough. I just want this fresh start to be good," I told him as I spotted Karen walk into the room.

"I get that darling. It's important to have a fresh start," Andy remarked.

"KC!" I shouted.

Karen turned her head towards my voice and came and joined us at the table.

"I didn't know you were going to be here!" Karen commented as she reached down to hug me.

"I didn't know you'd be here either KC," I told her.

"Hello Karen," Andy commented.

"You two look so cute," Karen remarked.

"Ha thanks KC," I told her.

"Did Karen know about the connection of the record store and this guy?" Andy asked quietly.

"No tell me all the details," Karen said as she sat down at our table.

"Well Big Boss, well actually his real name is Dennis,"  I began stating.

"DENNIS? His name is Dennis?" Karen asked shocked.

"Yes anyhow this guy John, well they are brothers," I told her.

Karen's mouth flew open.

"Are you serious?" Karen asked.

"Yes, I'm serious. Even Andy over here didn't believe it. But I also never felt the need to volunteer the information about his real name," I replied quietly.

"Dennis? Like what?" Karek asked chuckling.

"I know but shush because if John hears anything, I don't want him to think anything bad of me," I told her.

"My lips are sealed," Karen replied as she pretended to zip her lips.

"Thanks, KC," I told her.

"Darling, did you want some more punch?" Andy asked looking at my empty glass.

"Oh sure please thank you love," I told him as Andy escorted himself to the refreshments table.

"Have you told him about the work trip to Florida yet for December?" Karen asked me.

I shook my head.

"Are you gonna surprise him? Is he allowed to tag along?" Karen asked me.

"I think somehow I will turn it into a trip to see his family though they are spending all next week with us," I commented.

Karen noticed Andy walking back towards us.

"Shhh," Karen whispered.

"Here we are darling," Andy said handing me a glass of punch.

"Thanks love," I told him.

"I wonder who else is gonna be here," Karen tried changing the topic of conversation.

"I know for sure some of the small musicians from my label are," I told her.

"Are they looking to go bigger like with RSO or Curb?" Karen asked.

Andy was mindlessly staring off into space.

"I'm not sure but I'm sure eventually they will move to bigger labels," I told her.

"Just like Rich and I. I was signed to a now-defunct label Magic Lamp in 1966 and then they closed and then we finally landed at A&M," Karen told me.

"Sometimes I wish I had the chance to struggle and make my way up the latter.  I feel like my brothers were good but bad for me at times," Andy remarked.

"Oh?" I asked.

"Yeah I mean I didn't have to come up in the world like Karen or even you darling. I sort of had the opportunity handed to me," Andy analyzed.

"That's true," I replied.

"I mean I think sometimes it's easier to have that advantage though," Karen told Andy.

"But it would be nice to know rags to riches," Andy replied.

Then, before any of us could respond, one of the record executives in LA begin his speech.

I was spacing and hardly listening to a word but followed everyone else when they cheered, laughed or clapped.

"Darling, are you even listening?" Andy whispered as he chuckled.

"I'm just getting tired," I told him.

"Just another hour and we can go," Andy told me as he glanced down at his watch.

"Why do they even host these things? Good for the press?" Karen whispered.

I chuckled.

"The photos are good for the public eye I guess," I replied.

Andy and Karen both smiled.

Here was to being a star.
