Rafael Solano had been through hell on the past few years. Him and Petra got married, They were pregnant, he got cancer and now is trapped in a loveless marriage while trying to run a successful business.
The one constant he had in his life was Evangeline Martinez his best friend and business partner. She was there for his doctor appointments and she was Petra's maid of honor at the wedding. She and Roman Zazo were two people who were there.
Evangeline liked to communicate with the staff and was friends with a lot of them. She entered the locker room of the staff and overhead a conversation
"Maybe Michael's gonna propose. My sisters say guys get all cheeseball before they propose."
She recognized the voice to be Lina's, they both bonded over Fashion and styling.
"No way. We have a timeline, all right? I haven't gotten my teacher's degree yet. We just merged our calendars..." Said Jane. Jane and I became fast friends over interest of books, love of telenovelas and our Hispanic backgrounds.
"You've been dating two years and you haven't boned. He might move up the timeline." Said Lina
"He loves you. Your timeline can continue after a wedding." I interjected making them notice me
"Hi Eva!" Jane smiled
"Just wanted to see you guys before the party started." I said noticing their smiles are going to vanish as soon as zaz walks in here
"I also wanted to see your faces for what's going to happen." They both gave me confused looks.
Before I could answer zaz walked in
"Everybody decent?"
"Who are you?" Lina asks while I roll my eyes
"Roman Zazo but everyonecalls me zaz. I work for the management company that just bought the hotel. So you can think of me as one of your new bosses alongside Eva." All eyes fell on me
"Do not think of me as your boss. I am not on board with this idea." I said making everyone confused
"Pick a straw, please. Pick one keeping in mind there is nothing to worry about as long as you are outstanding at your job. Pick one. Which benefits us all, seeing we have the same goal, that goal being to make bank." Zaz says as he walks around the room hand straws to everyone but me.
"This is ridiculous"
"Okay. Let's see those straws." Zaz said ignoring me.
Everyone lifts their straws and my eyes travel the room when they stop at Jane who is holding the smallest straw.
"What's your name"Zaz asks her
"Jane"
"But everyone calls her Jaz" Lina says and I stifle a laugh as does Jane
"Okay Jaz, congratulations. You get the tail. Eva can show you where it is."
She turns to me and I lead her to the storage room and watch as her face falls.
"You have got to be kidding me."
"I'm sorry I told them it was ridiculous but everyone thought the idea of a mermaid refilling champagne was great."
She sighs and goes into the bathroom to change.
I get changed into my white dress and pin my hair up.
